Better is One Day!

May 28, 2014

Psalm 84:1-4, 10 NV
1 How lovely is your dwelling place,
Lord Almighty!
2 My soul yearns, even faints,
for the courts of the Lord;
my heart and my flesh cry out
for the living God.
3 Even the sparrow has found a home,
and the swallow a nest for herself,
where she may have her young—
a place near your altar,
Lord Almighty, my King and my God.
4 Blessed are those who dwell in your house;
they are ever praising you.

10 Better is one day in your courts
than a thousand elsewhere;
I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God
than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

“Better Is One Day”
Matt Redman

How lovely is Your dwelling place,
Oh Lord Almighty
My soul longs and even faints for You
For here my heart is satisfied,
within Your presence
I sing beneath the shadow of Your wings

Better is one day in Your courts
Better is one day in Your house
Better is one day in Your courts
Than thousands elsewhere

One thing I ask and I would seek,
to see Your beauty
To find You in the place Your glory dwells

My heart and flesh cry out,
For You the living God
Your spirit’s water for my soul
I’ve tasted and I’ve seen,
Come once again to me
I will draw near to You
I will draw near to You

Psalm 63:2-5,7 NIV
2 I have seen you in the sanctuary
and beheld your power and your glory.
3 Because your love is better than life,
my lips will glorify you.
4 I will praise you as long as I live,
and in your name I will lift up my hands.
5 I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods;
with singing lips my mouth will praise you.

7 Because you are my help,
I sing in the shadow of your wings.

Psalm 27:4-6 NIV
4 One thing I ask from the Lord,
this only do I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life,
to gaze on the beauty of the Lord
and to seek him in his temple.
5 For in the day of trouble
he will keep me safe in his dwelling;
he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent
and set me high upon a rock.
6 Then my head will be exalted
above the enemies who surround me;
at his sacred tent I will sacrifice with shouts of joy;
I will sing and make music to the Lord.

One Thing I Ask

Come Up Hither

December 30, 2009

Revelation 19:4-9 The twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshipped God, who was seated on the throne. And they cried: “Amen, Hallelujah!”
Then a voice came from the throne, saying, “Praise our God, all you His servants and those who fear Him, both small and great!”
Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting:
“Hallelujah! For our Lord God Almighty reigns.”
“Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready.”
And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteousness of the saints.
Then he said to me, “Write: ‘Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!’” And he said to me, “These are the true sayings of God.”

Revelation 21:9-11 Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls filled with the seven last plagues came to me and talked with me, saying, “Come hither, I will show you the bride, the Lamb’s wife.” And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me the great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, having the glory of God. Her light was like a most precious stone, like a jasper stone, clear as crystal.

Come up hither!
See the bride, the Lamb’s wife
The holy city set on a hill -Mt 5:14-16
A great and high mountain
On the mount of the Lord it shall be seen{provided}! -Gen 22:14

The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light. -Rev 21:23

Those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the firmament, and those who turn many to righteousness like the stars forever and ever. -Dan 12:3

The path of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, shining ever brighter till the full light of day. -Prov 4:18

For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. -2 Cor 4:6

Beloved
I AM making you a strong mountain
My city set on My holy hill
A light shining bright for all to see
I AM building up Zion -Ps 102:16
My glory revealed in your midst
The glory of God in the face of Christ. -2 Cor 3:18

I have loved you with an everlasting love;
… I have drawn you with loving-kindness. –Jer 31:3

May He kiss me with the kisses of His mouth! For your love is better than wine. Pleasing is the fragrance of your perfumes; your name is like perfume poured out. Therefore the virgins love you. Draw me away! Let us run together! Let the king bring me into his chambers. We rejoice and delight in you; we will praise your love more than wine. How right they are to adore you! –Song 1:2-4

Draw me, draw me away Lord
Up into Your holy hill, the holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High
That I may adore You
Oh to taste Your love and behold Your face!

One thing I have desired of the LORD, That will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the LORD All the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the LORD, And to inquire in His temple. For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; In the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock. And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me; Therefore I will offer sacrifices of joy in His tabernacle; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the LORD. -Ps 27:4-6

Be Lifted Higher

August 22, 2009

O My dove, in the clefts of the rock, in the secret places of the cliff,
Let me see your face, let me hear your voice;
For your voice is sweet, and your face is lovely. -Song 2:14

My Dove come
I AM calling you higher, deep into My secret place
Put on the garment of praise
Lift up your eyes to the King
Come away and worship at My feet
Be anointed with the oil of joy.

My Dove as you lift up your eyes to My face
As you lift up your hands in worship
As you lift up your voice in adoration …

Be lifted up
Set high upon the Rock
Hidden and kept safe beneath My wings
Held in perfect peace as the apple of My eye.

My Dove I long to hear your voice
I long to see your face …
Behold the beauty of the King
Behold!
I AM.

Jeremiah 33:10-11     There shall once more be heard the voice of mirth
and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of
the bride, the voices of those who sing, as they bring thank offerings to
the house of the LORD: “Give thanks to the LORD of hosts, for the LORD
is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!”

Zeph 3:17     The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will
take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice
over you with singing.

The Bridegroom’s answer to the Bride’s longing heart cry …

In My eyes, in My eyes,
You are so precious in My sight

In My eyes, in My eyes,
So much love for My Bride.

In My eyes, in My eyes,
You are so precious in My sight

Held in My gaze, a beautiful jewel
The apple of My eye

Under My wing, you’ll abide
So precious in My sight, you are held
You are held
In My eyes

Forever more
You are held
In My eyes.

Then those who feared the LORD spoke to one another, and the LORD
listened and heard them;
So a book of remembrance was written before Him for those who fear the
LORD and who meditate on His name.

Following the King’s Beauty

May 22, 2009

Psalm 27:4-6    One thing I have asked from the LORD, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD and to seek Him in His temple. For in the day of trouble He will keep me safe in His dwelling; He will hide me in the shelter of His tabernacle and set me high upon a rock. Then my head will be exalted above the enemies who surround me; at His tabernacle will I sacrifice with shouts of joy; I will sing and make music to the LORD.

What happens when we, like David, make beholding the beauty of the King in the place where He dwells(ZionPs 132:13) the ‘one thing’ that we seek?

We ‘taste and see’ and know that the Lord is good! –Ps 34:8
We know that His love is better than life –Ps 63:3
… more delightful than wine –Song 1:2

This creates a passion, a thirst like that of the deer panting for the streams of living water.

As the hart pants and longs for the water brooks, so I pant and long for You, O God. My inner self thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and behold the face of God? -Ps 42:1-2 AMP

A passion which follows hard[01692], clinging, cleaving closely to the Lord. Following hard enough to capture or overtake(Ps 63:8) that which is sought.

A passion to reach for and capture the prize, a passion to run the race with endurance.

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. –1 Cor 9:24

… I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. -Phil 3:13-14

This passion of the hart is also the passion of the Bride for the Bridegroom.

Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth — For your love is better than wine. Because of the fragrance of your good ointments, Your name is ointment poured forth; Therefore the virgins love you. Draw me after you and let us run together! The king has brought me into his chambers.” “We will rejoice in you and be glad; We will extol your love more than wine. The upright love you.” -Song 1:2-4

This cry to be drawn away is the cry of the Bride for union and communion with her Beloved. There is an inexpressible glorious joy that results from even the thought of a love like this.

The result of this joy? This following hard after the King?

Psalm 63:1-8    O GOD, You are my God, earnestly will I seek You; my inner self thirsts for You, my flesh longs and is faint for You, in a dry and weary land where no water is.

2 So I have looked upon You in the sanctuary to see Your power and Your glory.

3 Because Your loving-kindness is better than life, my lips shall praise You.

4 So will I bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name.

5 My whole being shall be satisfied as with marrow and *fatnes[01880]; and my mouth shall praise You with joyful lips

6 When I remember You upon my bed and meditate on You in the night watches.

7 For You have been my help, and in the shadow of Your wings will I rejoice.

8 My whole being follows hard after You and clings closely to You; Your right hand upholds me.

Your whole being shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and your mouth shall show forth His praise!

You shall be upheld by the King’s mighty right hand.

My Cup Overflows!

Psalm 23:5 AMP     You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You *anoint[01878] my head with **oil; My [brimming] cup runs over.

** It is difficult for those living in a temperate climate to appreciate, but it was customary in hot climates to anoint the body with oil to protect it from excessive perspiration. When mixed with perfume, the oil imparted a delightfully refreshing and invigorating sensation. Athletes anointed their bodies as a matter of course before running a race. As the body, therefore, anointed with oil was refreshed, invigorated, and better fitted for action, so the Lord would anoint His “sheep” with the Holy Spirit, Whom oil symbolizes, to fit them to engage more freely in His service and run in the way He directs–in heavenly fellowship with Him.

Psalm 36:7-9     How priceless is Your unfailing love! Both high and low among men find refuge in the shadow of Your wings. They drink their fill of the *abundance[01880] of Your house; and You give them to drink of the river of Your delights. For with You is the fountain of life; In Your light we see light.

Jeremiah 31:7, 11-14    For thus says the LORD, “Sing aloud with gladness for Jacob, and shout among the chief of the nations; Proclaim, give praise and say, ‘O LORD, save Your people, the remnant of Israel.’

For the LORD has ransomed Jacob and redeemed him from the hand of him who was stronger than he. “They will come and shout for joy on the height of Zion, and they will be radiant over the bounty of the LORD– over the grain and the new wine and the oil, and over the young of the flock and the herd; And their life will be like a watered garden, and they will never languish again.  “Then the virgin will rejoice in the dance, and the young men and the old, together, for I will turn their mourning into joy and will comfort them and give them joy for their sorrow. “I will fill the soul of the priests with *abundance[01880], and My people will be satisfied with My goodness,” declares the LORD.

Seek His Face!

May 21, 2009

1 Chronicles 16:11    Look to the LORD and His strength; seek His face always{continually}.

The Lord used the above scriptures at a special time in my life when the Holy Spirit was just beginning to flow thru me in a new way to touch others. It was thru singing and praising the Lord in a small group, simply beholding the beauty of the Lord and enjoying His presence that He allowed a new song to first rise up from within me: ‘Celebrate the King’. This new experience also caused me to search my heart/motives and to see that there is a difference between seeking the Lord for the gift {His hand} and seeking His face to truly know Him, the person.

What does it mean to seek the Lord’s face to behold His beauty? The meaning of the Hebrew words

seek  is: baqash [01245]: to search out in worship or prayer
face is: paniym [06440]: presence, person
and behold is: chazah [02372]: to see (by experience), to perceive, to contemplate (with pleasure).

So to seek the Lord’s face to behold His beauty would mean to search out His person or presence in worship/prayer to experience, perceive and enjoy your relationship with one another.

The difference between seeking the Lord’s face over His hand is also seen by Mary, who like David chose the same ‘one thing’, to sit at the feet of Jesus and behold.

Luke 10:41-42    “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things; but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.”

Mary chose the ‘one thing’ that Jesus says is necessary. The Lord turns His face towards the David’s and Mary’s who come to sit and simply abide at His feet to behold Him. The eyes of the Lord are upon –

  • … those who fear Him, on those whose hope is in His unfailing love. -Ps 33:18
  • … the righteous, and His ears are open to their prayers; but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil. -1 Pe 3:12
  • … those whose heart is loyal{fully devoted} to Him, for the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth to show Himself strong on their behalf. -2 Chron 16:9

The Father’s heart is open to those who have an ongoing relationship with Him; His children who not only come to Him with their needs but who also seek His face to enjoy their relationship with Him.

The Father’s heart is open to His children who come to simply abide and  behold His beauty.

John 15:7 NASB    If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.

John 15:7 MSG   But if you make yourselves at home with me and my words are at home in you, you can be sure that whatever you ask will be listened to and acted upon.

Heart check–
There is nothing like feeling His power/anointing flowing thru you touching others but …

Are you seeking His anointing — His hand or are you seeking His person — the relationship?

What would you do if the flow of His power or anointing thru you stopped?

Luke 10:17-21    The seventy-two returned with joy and said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name.”

He replied, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”

At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure.

***

1 Chronicles 16:8-11   Give thanks to the LORD, call on His name; make known among the nations what He has done. Sing to Him, sing praise to Him; tell of all His wonderful acts. Glory in His holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice. Look to the LORD and His strength; seek His face always{continually}.

O Lord, You’re Beautiful
Keith Green

Oh Lord, You’re beautiful
Your face is all I seek
For when Your eyes are on this child
Your grace abounds to me.

Oh Lord, please light the fire
That once burned bright and clean
Replace the lamp of my first love
That burns with holy fear.

I want to take Your Word and shine it all around
But first help me just to live it, Lord
And when I’m doing well, help me to never seek a crown
For my reward is giving glory to You.

The eyes of the Lord are upon —

  • But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear Him, on those whose hope is in His unfailing love. -Ps 33:18
  • For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their prayers; but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil. -1 Pe 3:12
  • For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal{fully devoted} to Him.

From Daily Promise
http://dailyqt.crossmap.com/    Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up. (Ja 4:10 KJV) Reflection: This conditional promise can be misused by some who have ulterior motives, but when we truly humble ourselves in the Lord’s sight it can in no way be for our own lifting up. True humility would put ourselves last and that is what makes this paradoxical truth so amazing. We cannot lift our own selves up; it is only God who is able to do that and He only does that when we are humbled before Him. We also saw this demonstrated in Christ who “humbled Himself to the point of death—even the death of the cross” yet “God exalted Him” (Phil 2:8-9).

The Fragrance of Joy

May 1, 2009

Song 4:12-16       A [rock] garden enclosed is my sister, my spouse, a spring shut up, a fountain sealed.

Your plants are an orchard of pomegranates with pleasant fruits, fragrant henna with spikenard, spikenard and saffron, calamus and cinnamon, with all trees of frankincense, myrrh and aloes, with all the chief spices*––

You are a fountain [springing up] in a garden, a well of living waters, and flowing streams from Lebanon.

Awake, north wind, and come, south wind! Blow on my garden, that its fragrance may spread abroad. Let my lover come into His garden and taste its choice fruits.

***

The Bride, this garden enclosed has a sweet fragrance
The aroma of perfuming oil or incense
The aroma of Christ.

The aroma of the Bridegroom and King, the oil of joy
The sweet fragrance of joy!

Like the Bridegroom
The Bride anointed with this fragrance of joy
And set high upon a rock
Her head lifted above her enemies round about
Midst sacrifices with shouts of joy and singing. —
Ps 27:4-6

Let the wind of the Spirit blow
That this fragrance of life may spread.

To grant [consolation and joy] to those who mourn in Zion–to give them an ornament (a garland or diadem) of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, the garment [expressive] of praise instead of a heavy, burdened, and failing spirit–that they may be called oaks of righteousness [lofty, strong, and magnificent, distinguished for uprightness, justice, and right standing with God], the planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified. –Isa 61:3

I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul will exult in my God; for He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. For as [surely as] the earth brings forth its shoots, and as a garden causes what is sown in it to spring forth, so [surely] the Lord God will cause rightness and justice and praise to spring forth before all the nations [through the self-fulfilling power of His word]. –Isa 61:10-11

Let my lover come into His garden and taste its choice fruits.

“Where has your beloved gone, O most beautiful among women? Where has your beloved turned, that we may seek Him with you?”

“My beloved has gone down to His garden, to the beds of spices, to pasture His flock in the gardens and gather lilies.”

“I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine.” –Song 6:1-3

Let my lover come into His garden and taste its choice fruits.
To pasture His flock and gather the lilies.

IT’S TIME TO GATHER THE LILIES.

Song 7:2(Lover to Beloved)
Your navel is a rounded goblet; It lacks no liquor(mixd wine). Your belly is a heap of wheat encirlced about with lilies.

Where the lilies are gathered
In their midst – a heap of wheat!
A plentiful harvest capable of feeding many.

There is goblet with mixed wine, which is intoxicating,
Filled and used for joyous celebration
And rivers of living water! –Jn 7:38

Let my lover come into His garden and taste its choice fruits.
To pasture His flock and gather the lilies.

IT’S TIME TO GATHER THE LILIES.

Hebrews 10:23-25
Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near

2 Corinthians 2:14-17     Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. To the one we are the aroma [wafted] of death leading to death [a fatal odor, the smell of doom], and to the other the aroma of life leading to life [a vital fragrance, living and fresh]. And who is sufficient for these things? For we are not, as so many, peddling the word of God; but as of sincerity, but as from God, we speak in the sight of God in Christ.

Psalm 45:7-8   You love righteousness and hate wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy. All your robes are fragrant with myrrh and aloes and cassia; from palaces adorned with ivory the music of the strings makes you glad.

*Or “with all the finest balsam trees.” The Hebrew term בֹּשֶׂם (bosem) can refer either to the balsam tree, the spice associated with it, or by extension any fragrant aroma used as perfuming oil or incense.
