In Your Lovingkindness Wrap Me

July 9, 2011

Psalm 31:16 NASB … Make Your face to shine upon Your servant; Save me in Your lovingkindness.

Save me in Your lovingkindness. This line made me think of being wrapped in His lovingkindness, His mercy, His unfailing love as with a warm blanket. When I was little I had a pink blanket that I always carried around. I would wrap it around me if I was scared or afraid. It provided warmth and comfort; a place of safety. Just thinking of it makes me smile. The Lord is like this!

Psalm 103:2-5Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits—

  • who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases,
  • who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with lovingkindness and compassion,
  • who wraps you in goodness so that your youth is renewed like the eagle.

Wrap yourself in His lovingkindness(tender mercy, deep affection),
forget not all His benefits-
and trust in Him.
This is your shield, your protection and your crown!

Psalm 5:11-12 But let all who take refuge in You be glad; let them ever sing for joy. Spread Your protection over them, that those who love Your name may rejoice in You. For surely, O LORD, You bless the righteous; You surround them with Your favour as with a shield.

When I looked up what shield means, this prayer made me smile even more. It means to be guarded by prickliness – the opposite of a warm blanket! To His people His shield of lovingkindness is warm and safe but to enemies the shield pierces and guards with prickliness like a barb.

The Root of Faith

Will trust You

Quote: Trust Means Joy by Spurgeon
The root of faith produces the flower of heart-joy

Lord Jesus, let all who take refuge in You be glad; Let them ever sing for joy. Spread your protection over them, that those who love Your name may rejoice in You. For surely, O LORD, You bless the righteous; You surround them with Your favor as with a shield. -Ps 5:11-12
