Because He Cares

February 19, 2014

1 Peter 5:5-7 AMP … … Clothe (apron) yourselves, all of you, with humility [as the garb of a servant, so that its covering cannot possibly be stripped from you, with freedom from pride and arrogance] toward one another. For God sets Himself against the proud (the insolent, the overbearing, the disdainful, the presumptuous, the boastful)—[and He opposes, frustrates, and defeats them], but gives grace (favor, blessing) to the humble.

Therefore humble yourselves [demote, lower yourselves in your own estimation] under the mighty hand of God, that in due time He may exalt you, casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully.

Psalm 55:22 AMP … Cast your burden on the Lord [releasing the weight of it] and He will sustain you; He will never allow the [consistently] righteous to be moved (made to slip, fall, or fail).

.
Humble yourself before the Lord
By casting ALL your care on Him
Release the weight of it – no burden is too heavy for Him
He is faithful to sustain you
BECAUSE
He affectionately and watchfully cares for you!

.

I love to dwell upon the thought
That Jesus cares for me,
It matters not what life may bring—
He loves me tenderly.  —Adams

Because God cares for us, we can leave our cares with Him.
{above poem & quote from ODB}

Thank You Lord Jesus for carrying our burdens. Help us each to remember how much You care, so that we may humbly cast ALL our cares on You.

Praise be to the Lord, to God our Saviour, who daily bears our burdens. Selah -Ps 68:19 NIV

Praise the Lord; praise God our savior! For each day He carries us in His arms. -Ps 68:19 NLT

From NetBible 1Pe5:5-7

  • **“Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, so that in due time he may exalt you.” The sentence was rearranged so that the English reader could more clearly see the connection between “casting” (v. 7) and “humble” (v. 6).
  • *Casting. According to ExSyn 630, “Although treated as an independent command in several modern translations (e.g., RSV, NRSV, NIV), the participle [casting] should be connected with the verb of v 6, ταπεινώθητε [tapeinwqhte, Humble yourselves]. As such, it is not offering a new command, but is defining how believers are to humble themselves. Taking the participle as means enriches the understanding of both verbs: Humbling oneself is not a negative act of self-denial per se, but a positive one of active dependence on God for help.

Psalm 81:6 … I removed his shoulder from the burden; His hands were freed from the baskets.

From NetBible Ps 81:6

  • * I removed the burden. The Lord speaks metaphorically of how he delivered his people from Egyptian bondage. The reference to a basket/burden probably alludes to the hard labor of the Israelites in Egypt, where they had to carry loads of bricks (see Exod 1:14).

Cast your burden on the Lord [releasing the weight of it] and He will sustain you; He will never allow the [consistently] righteous to be moved (made to slip, fall, or fail). -Ps 55:22 AMP

Blessed be the Lord, praise God our savior! Day after day He bears our burdens and carries us in His arms. -Ps 68:19

Lord Jesus, thank You for every burden You have lifted off of my shoulders; For carrying the burdens I am not able to carry.

Day After Day

Matthew 6:24-25, 28 No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. THEREFORE I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? … Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin;

Who have you chosen to follow?
Day after day choose to follow Jesus
Consider the lilies and rest in His arms.

Day after day
His mercies new, great is His faithfulness! -Lam 3:23

Day after day
The LORD is wonderfully good
… to those whose hope is in Him
… to those who wait for Him
… to those who diligently seek Him
… to those who trust Him. -Lam 3:25

Cast all your anxiety on Him, release the weight of it.
He will sustain you BECAUSE He cares for you. -1Pe 5:7; Ps 55:22
