Upheld Forevermore

March 4, 2015

Psalm 63:8 AMP
8 My whole being follows hard after You and clings closely to You; Your right hand upholds me.

From NetBible Ps 63:8

  • my soul follows hard[01692] = my soul clings, cleaves, pursues hard enough to overtake, pursues with determination

My favorite reason to follow hard after the Lord
==> to be in His presence with fullness of joy
Upheld by His mighty right hand forevermore!

Psalm 16:8-11 AMP
8 I have set the Lord continually before me; because He is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.
9 Therefore my heart is glad and my glory [my inner self] rejoices; my body too shall rest and confidently dwell in safety,
10 For You will not abandon me to Sheol (the place of the dead), neither will You suffer Your holy one [Holy One] to see corruption.
11 You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy, at Your right hand there are pleasures forevermore.

Other good reasons to follow hard:

  • you will not be moved, He helps you stand firm -Ps16:8
  • you will find rest and safety -Ps16:9
  • you will find eternal life -Ps16:10-11
  • you will see the Lord’s power and glory –Ps 63:2
  • you will experience the Lord’s love and know it’s better than life! –Ps 63:3
  • your soul will be satisfied –Ps 63:5
  • you will experience His help and deliverance –Ps 63:7
  • your enemies will not triumph over you –Ps 63:9

Psalm 63 AMP
1 O God, You are my God, earnestly will I seek You; my inner self thirsts for You, my flesh longs and is faint for You, in a dry and weary land where no water is.
2 So I have looked upon You in the sanctuary to see Your power and Your glory.
3 Because Your loving-kindness is better than life, my lips shall praise You.
4 So will I bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name.
5 My whole being shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise You with joyful lips
6 When I remember You upon my bed and meditate on You in the night watches.
7 For You have been my help, and in the shadow of Your wings will I rejoice.
8 My whole being follows hard after You and clings closely to You; Your right hand upholds me.
9 But those who seek and demand my life to ruin and destroy it shall [themselves be destroyed and] go into the lower parts of the earth [into the underworld of the dead].
10 They shall be given over to the power of the sword; they shall be a prey for foxes and jackals.
11 But the king shall rejoice in God; everyone who swears by Him [that is, who binds himself by God’s authority, acknowledging His supremacy, and devoting himself to His glory and service alone; every such one] shall glory, for the mouths of those who speak lies shall be stopped.

HIs Footsteps = Our Pathway

August 10, 2014

Psalm 85:10-13 NKJV
10 Mercy and truth have met together; Righteousness and peace have kissed. 11 Truth shall spring out of the earth, And righteousness shall look down from heaven. 12 Yes, the LORD will give what is good; And our land will yield its increase. 13 Righteousness will go before Him, And shall make His footsteps our pathway.

From NetBible Ps 85:10-13

  • Righteousness{Deliverance} and peace greet each other with a kiss. The psalmist personifies these abstract qualities to emphasize that God’s loyal love and faithfulness{truth} will yield deliverance and peace for his people.
  • The psalmist already sees undeniable signs of God’s faithfulness{truth} and expects deliverance to arrive soon.
  • “and it prepares for a way his footsteps.” Some suggest emending וְיָשֵׂם(vÿyasem, “and prepares”) to וְשָׁלוֹם (vÿshalom, “and peace”) since “deliverance” and “peace” are closely related earlier in v. 10. This could be translated, “and peace [goes ahead, making] a pathway for his footsteps”

The Lord Jesus Christ goes before
His footsteps are our pathway.

Trust in the Lord Jesus Christ
He is faithful and true
To keep the one who follows close behind

Peace and deliverance are in His footsteps!

Psalm 63:8 NKJV
8 My soul follows close behind You{follows hard after You}; Your right hand upholds me.

Follow close{follow hard} behind the Lord Jesus Christ
Place your feet in His footsteps
And be upheld by His MIGHTY right hand!

Give me one pure and holy passion
Give me on magnificent obsession
Give me one glorious ambition for my life
To know and follow hard after You

To know and follow hard after you
To grow as your dicsiple in your truth
This world is empty, pale, and poor
Compared to knowing you, my Lord
Lead me on and I will run after you
Lead me on and I will run after you

Longing Hearts

August 12, 2011

The Lord longs to be gracious to you
Therefore, He rises up in compassion
That He may have mercy on you and
Show His loving-kindness to you.

Because of this you are not consumed
His tender compassions fail not
The steadfast love of the LORD Jesus Christ
Never comes to an end!
New every morning
Great is His faithfulness!

The LORD is a God of justice.
Blessed are all who wait[expect, long for] for Him in faith!

Isaiah 30:18 AMP … And therefore the Lord [earnestly] waits [expecting, looking, and longing] to be gracious to you; and therefore He lifts Himself up{rises up}, that He may have mercy on you and show loving-kindness to you. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) are all those who [earnestly] wait for Him, who expect and look and long for Him [for His victory, His favor, His love, His peace, His joy, and His matchless, unbroken companionship]!

Lamentations 3:21-23 AMP … But this I recall and therefore have I hope and expectation: 22It is because of the Lord’s mercy and loving-kindness that we are not consumed, because His [tender] compassions fail not. 23They are new every morning; great and abundant is Your stability and faithfulness.

Everlasting King Eternal

My soul follows hard after You; Your right hand upholds me. -Ps 63:8

And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; For You, LORD, have not forsaken those who seek You. -Ps 9:10

Those with faith know His name and trust Him –> so they run after, follow hard after, diligently seek Him because they love Him.

Word Study

From NetBible Ps 90:1, Ps 71:3

  • dwelling place[04583] = habitation, refuge,
a place to be covered, concealed & safe

From From NetBible Prov 18:10

  • *The metaphor of “running” to the Lord refers to a whole-hearted and unwavering trust in God’s protection*safe- Heb “is high” or “is inaccessible.” This military-type expression stresses the effect of the trust – security, being out of danger (see HALOT 1305 s.v. שׂגב). Other scriptures will supply the ways that God actually protects people who trust him.

safe[07682] = to be set on high, inaccessibly high, out of reach

From NetBible Jer 31:3; Song 1:4

  • Draw is used figuratively of a master gently leading an animal with leather cords (Hos 11:4) and of a military victor leading his captives (Jer 31:3). The point of comparison might be that the woman wants to be the willing captive of the love of her beloved, that is, a willing prisoner of his love.

draw[04900] = to attract, lead along(and lift out)

From NetBible Psa 63:8

  • follows hard[01692] = pursue to catch or overtake with determination
to cling, cleave or be joined

From NetBible Heb 11:6

  • diligently seek[1567] = to strive after, to crave

From NetBible Psa 9:10

  • “To know” the Lord’s “name” means to be his follower, recognizing his authority and maintaining loyalty to him. See Ps 91:14, where “knowing” the Lord’s “name” is associated with loving him.
