January 5, 2016

John 14:23 NKJV … Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home[3438]{dwelling, abode, mansion} with him”.

Psalm 91:9 NKJV … Because you have made the LORD, who is my refuge, Even the Most High, your dwelling place[04583]{home, habitation, refuge} …

Psalm 71:1-3 NASB … In You, O Lord, I have taken refuge;
Let me never be ashamed.
2 In Your righteousness deliver me and rescue me;
Incline Your ear to me and save me.
3 Be to me a rock of habitation[04583]{dwelling , habitation, refuge} to which I may continually come;
You have given commandment to save me,
For You are my rock and my fortress.

John 14:2-3 NKJV … In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so , I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.

The Secret Place of the Stairs

November 12, 2015

Song of Solomon 2:14 KJV … O my dove, that art in the clefts of the rock, in the secret places of the stairs, let me see thy countenance, let me hear thy voice; for sweet is thy voice, and thy countenance is comely.

From NetBible Song 2:14

  • clefts[02288] = hiding place, place of concealment, safety, refuge
  • secret place[05643] = hiding place, shelter, cover
  • stairs[04095] = steep or inaccessible place, pathway

What is this secret place of the steep stairway?

The secret place is in the cleft of the Rock. Remember Moses? Where he asked to see the Lord’s glory(Ex 33)? The Lord told him to stand on the Rock. Then the Lord put him in the cleft and covered him with His hand. The Rock is Christ(1Co 10:4). The cleft in the Rock is the secret place of the Most High, beneath the shadow of His wings(Ps 91).  It’s interesting that the name Most High associated with this secret place is from a root meaning to climb or ascend(see below). This is a place that can only be reached through Jesus Christ – you can’t get there on your own.

Psalm 40:1-3 AMPC … I waited patiently and expectantly for the Lord; And He inclined to me and heard my cry. 2 He brought me up out of a horrible pit [of tumult and of destruction], out of the miry clay, And He set my feet upon a rock, steadying my footsteps and establishing my path. 3 He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God; Many will see and fear [with great reverence] And will trust confidently in the Lord.

Psalm 91:1 AMPC … He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty [Whose power no foe can withstand].

From NetBible Ps 91:1

  • Most High[05945] = sovereign one, sovereign King, elevated above all
*from [05927] = to go up, ascend, climb

Romans 8:31 AMP … What then shall we say to all these things? If God is for us, who can be [successful] against us?

Psalm 91:1-2 AMP … He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will remain secure and rest in the shadow of the Almighty [whose power no enemy can withstand]. 2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, My God, in whom I trust [with great confidence, and on whom I rely]!

From NetBible Ps 91:2

  • trust[0982] = to have bold confidence, to be secure/sure

From NetBible Is 7:9

  • believe[0539] = stand firm, trust, remain, endure
  • There is a wordplay in this verse: If you will not believe{stand firm}[0539] , Surely you shall not be established{you will not endure}[0539]* “Believe” (תַאֳמִינוּ, taaminu) is a Hiphil form of the verb אָמָן (’aman); “endure” (תֵאָמֵנוּ, teamenu) is a Niphal form of this same verb.

Make sure you are on the Lord’s side
Stand firm in the Lord, secure beneath His wings
=> And nothing will be able to stand against
=> this is the only way to ENDURE! –
Is 7:9

Stand firm in the Lord
Beneath His wings stand secure
Stand firm, stand sure
With your feet upon the Rock stand secure –Ps 40:2
Stand fast, stand true, mature, fully assured
On the everlasting, unchanging Rock of Ages –Is 26:4
Trust in the Lord and treasure His word –Pro 2:1-5
The only way to ENDURE! –Is 7:9

Colossians 4:12 AMP … Epaphras, who is one of yourselves, a servant of Christ Jesus, sends you greetings. [He is] always striving for you earnestly in his prayers, [pleading] that you may [as persons of ripe character and clear conviction] stand firm and mature [in spiritual growth], convinced and fully assured in everything willed by God.

From NetBible Col 4:12

  • NIV … … stand firm in all the will of God, mature and fully assured.
  • NASB … … stand perfect and fully assured in all the will of God.
  • NASB … … stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.

The Hand of the Lord Came Upon

October 18, 2015

Psalm 139:5 NIV … You hem me in—behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me.

I was thinking about the Lord “hemming me in” and looking at the above image. The image looks like the secret place of Psalm 91 beneath the wings of the Lord. The secret place on high before the Lord’s throne from my previous post (Flying Soaring Wings)

Then I remembered Ezekiel 40:1-2, where the Lord brought Ezekiel to a “very high mountain”! Again this made me think of the secret place on high before the Lord’s throne. Notice below, before the Lord brought Ezekiel to this high mountain – the hand of the Lord was upon him. It’s from this high mountain that Ezekiel receives a vision from the Lord. In Ezekiel God’s hand being on the prophet Ezekiel is regularly associated with communication or a vision from God. Ezekiel 40:1-2 is especially interesting because it shows that this communication from God takes place on Mt Zion, the place where the Most High dwells, the secret place in the shadow of His wings. A place that you can only go to if God’s hand lifts you up and places you there(Ps 40:1-3)!

Ezekiel 40:1-2 NASB … In the twenty-fifth year of our exile, at the beginning of the year, on the tenth of the month, in the fourteenth year after the city was taken, on that same day the hand of the LORD was upon me and He brought me there. 2 In the visions of God He brought me into the land of Israel and set me on a very high mountain, and on it to the south there was a structure like a city.

From NetBible Ezek 40:1

  • *Hand upon in the OT can refer metaphorically to power, authority, or influence. In Ezekiel God’s hand being on the prophet is regularly associated with communication or a vision from God
    =>Ezekiel 1:1-3; 3:12-14, 22; 8:1; 37:1; 40:1

From NetBible Ezek 40:2

  • In the visions of God = By means of divine visions => The expression introduces the three major visions of Ezekiel (Ezekiel 1:1; 8:1,3; 40:1,2)
  • a very high mountain = harmonious with Isa 2:2
    .
Isaiah 2:2 NASB … Now it will come about that In the last days The mountain of the house of the LORD Will be established as the chief of the mountains, And will be raised above the hills; And all the nations will stream to it.

    • * The image of Mount Zion being elevated above other mountains and hills pictures the prominence it will attain in the future.
    • * Mt Zion = the place where the Lord dwells = the secret place (Ps 132:13-14; Ps 91:1)

Isaiah 4:5-6 AMP … And the Lord will create over the whole site, over every dwelling place of Mount Zion and over her assemblies, a cloud and smoke by day and the shining of a flaming fire by night; for over all the glory shall be a canopy (a defense of divine love and protection). And there shall be a pavilion[tabernacle] for shade in the daytime from the heat, and for a place of refuge and a shelter from storm and from rain.

From NetBible Isa 4:5-6

  • dwelling place[04349] = established place, habitation
  • canopy[02646] = divine protection, defense
=>”over all the glory, a canopy.” This may allude to Exod 40:34-35, where a cloud overshadows the meeting tent as it is filled with God’s glory.
  • pavilion[05521] =tabernacle, booth
  • shade[06738] = shadow, protection, defense

Psalm 91:1-2, 4 AMP
1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
Will remain secure and rest in the shadow of the Almighty [whose power no enemy can withstand].
2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
My God, in whom I trust [with great confidence, and on whom I rely]!”
… He will cover you with His pinions, and under His wings shall you trust and find refuge; His truth and His faithfulness are a shield and a buckler.

From NetBible Ps 91:1

  • dwells[03427] = abides, remains, have one’s abode, to marry (give a dwelling to)
  • shelter[05643] = covering, hiding place, secret place
  • rest[03885] = abide, dwell, lodge{all night}
  • shadow[06738] = shade, protection, defense
  • *  In this psalm an individual (perhaps a priest) addresses one who has sought shelter in the Lord and assures him that God will protect him from danger (vv. 1-13). In vv. 14-16 God himself promises to keep his loyal follower safe.
  • * The Lord is compared here to a bird who protects its young under the shadow of its wings (see v. 4).
  • *  The divine name used here is “Shaddai” (שַׁדַּיshadday; see also Ps 68:14). Shaddai (or El Shaddai) is the mighty king (sovereign judge) of the world who grants life/blesses and kills/judges. In Genesis he blesses the patriarchs with fertility and promises numerous descendants. Outside Genesis he both blesses/protects and takes away life/happiness.

Stand Firm!

April 16, 2015

Exodus 14:13-14 AMP
13 Moses told the people, Fear not; stand still (firm, confident, undismayed) and see the salvation of the Lord which He will work for you today. For the Egyptians you have seen today you shall never see again.
14 The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace and remain at rest.

Don’t be afraid
Stand Firm
Confident
Undismayed

The Lord fights for those who love Him
Stand firm on His Truth!

1 John 2:3-5 NKJV
The Test of Knowing Him
3 Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. 4 He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5 But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him.

Psalm 91:14 AMP
14 Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him; I will set him on high, because he knows and understands My name [has a personal knowledge of My mercy, love, and kindness—trusts and relies on Me, knowing I will never forsake him, no, never].

Be Surrounded

January 29, 2015

Psalm 146:5-6 AMP
5 Happy (blessed, fortunate, enviable) is he who has the God of [special revelation to] Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the Lord his God,
6 Who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, Who keeps truth and is faithful forever …

Psalm 91:14-16 AMP
14 Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him; I will set him on high, because he knows and understands My name [has a personal knowledge of My mercy, love, and kindness—trusts and relies on Me, knowing I will never forsake him, no, never].
15 He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life will I satisfy him and show him My salvation.

Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord
Who sets his love upon the Lord
The Lord will never forsake the one who knows Him personally!

Psalm 32:7,10 AMP
7 You are a hiding place for me; You, Lord, preserve me from trouble, You surround me with songs and shouts of deliverance. Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]! …
… 10 Many are the sorrows of the wicked, but he who trusts in, relies on, and confidently leans on the Lord shall be compassed about with mercy and with loving-kindness.

Make the Lord your hiding place and
Be preserved from trouble
Be encompassed with His mercy and loving-kindness
Be surrounded with His songs of deliverance!

Kept

October 29, 2014

Isaiah 43:1-3 AMP
1 But now [in spite of past judgments for Israel’s sins], thus says the Lord, He Who created you, O Jacob, and He Who formed you, O Israel: Fear not, for I have redeemed you [ransomed you by paying a price instead of leaving you captives]; I have called you by your name; you are Mine.
2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned or scorched, nor will the flame kindle upon you.
3 For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I give Egypt [to the Babylonians] for your ransom, Ethiopia and Seba [a province of Ethiopia] in exchange [for your release].

Do not be afraid
Those who are Mine
Are kept through the deep waters
Are kept through the fire
Are kept and not forsaken!

Those who are Mine
Are kept because they trust Me
And have set their love upon Me
They have a personal knowledge of My mercy and love.

Encompassed Round About

O Most High

March 18, 2014

The following song has been on my heart the last couple days. Comforting to remember who to “run” to when trouble comes. The Lord is faithful!
🙂
Keep seeking, knowing and trusting the Lord.

O Most High

VERSE
I will give thanks
To the Lord with all my heart
I will sing glorious praise to Your name
I will be glad and exult in You, my Lord
Yesterday, today, forever, You’re the same

CHORUS
O Most High,
You who are my stronghold
When troubles come
You’re my hiding place
O Most High
Those who know You trust You
And You will not forsake the ones
Who seek Your face

Psalm 9:1-2,10-11I will give thanks to the Lord with all my heart; I will tell of all Your wonders. 2 I will be glad and exult in You; I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High.

9 The Lord also will be a stronghold for the oppressed, A stronghold in times of trouble; 10 And those who know Your name will put their trust in You, For You, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You.

From NetBible Ps 9:9-10

  • stronghold[04869] = refuge, high tower or other lofty inaccessible place
  • *Here an “elevated place” refers to a stronghold, a defensible, secure position that represents a safe haven in times of unrest or distress (cf. NEB “tower of strength”; NIV, NRSV “stronghold”).
  • *“To know” the Lord’s “name” means to be his follower, recognizing his authority and maintaining loyalty to him. See Ps 91:14, where “knowing” the Lord’s “name” is associated with loving him.

Psalm 91:1,14 AMP … He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty [Whose power no foe can withstand]. … Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him; I will set him on high, because he knows and understands My name [has a personal knowledge of My mercy, love, and kindness—trusts and relies on Me, knowing I will never forsake him, no, never].
