  • save[03467] = to save, to be liberated, to give victory to
    *from a primitive root, Greek [5614] = hosanna
  • He will quiet you[02790] = make silent, give rest
    * “he causes [you] to be silent by his love,” that is, “he soothes [you] by his love.” The present translation follows the LXX and assumes an original reading יְחַדֵּשׁ (yÿkhaddesh, “he renews”) with ellipsis of the object (“you”).

Rest in the LORD and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who carries out wicked schemes.

=>Resting in the Lord is linked with waiting patiently with NO fretting!

Rest in Jesus

January 14, 2019

Matthew 11:28-30Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.
.
Two kinds of rest

  1. Simply “Come” to Jesus
    .
    Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. 16 Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. –Heb 4:14-16
    .
  2. Be “yoked”/walk and learn from Jesus
    * As we walk we, also walk together with others –Gal 6:2
    * Walk and live as children of the Light –Eph 5:6-11

.

.
What “steals” rest?

  1. Fear, doubt => not trusting the Lord {Trust/rely on Him alone –Pro 3:5-7}
  2. Not dwelling/abiding feeding on the Lord’s faithfulness/truth {Abide in Jesus and His Word –Jn 15:4-7}
  3. Not delighting/surrendering all to the Lord {Surrender petitions with prayer and thanksgiving –Phil 4:4-9}
  4. Not totally committing our plans to the Lord {Don’t trust in your own strength –Zec 4:6;Ps 20:7}
  5. Not waiting patiently for the Lord {keep in step –Gal 5:25; Be still and know –Ps 46:10}
  6. Fretting because someone prospers in the world’s way {Friend of world = enemy of God –Jam 4:4}

  • Delight[06026] = to be soft{pliable}, be delicate, be dainty
  • Desires[04862] = request, petition, prayers

*Faith and obedience (v. 3) will bring divine blessing – answered prayer(v. 4).

.

Sweet Rest in the Lord

The one the LORD loves rests between His shoulders=>
May the beloved of the LORD dwell in safety{rest secure} by Him,
Who shelters{covers} His own all the day long!

Deuteronomy 33:12 AMP
Of Benjamin he said, “May the beloved of the Lord dwell in safety by Him; He shields and covers him all the day long,
And he dwells between His shoulders.”

From Biblegateway Dt 33:12

* The temple in Jerusalem was located almost between the ridges of the territory of Benjamin, suggesting “between his shoulders” (see also Josh 15:8). Moses saw it as a symbol of the Lord’s presence covering Benjamin continually.

From Strange Scriptures That Perplex the Western Mind
By Barbara M. Bowen

This scripture refers to the Bible Land’s hammock or cradle, … It is a hammock … carried on the mother’s shoulders, with cords passing across her forehead. … How often we have seen a small hammock on the shoulders of a young mother, with a tiny face peeking out, or more often with a sleeping baby and a little foot or a small hand showing at the side of the hammock. When the mother carries the child, she will draw a part of her large white veil over the hammock as a protection against the hot sun, either partly or completely covering it. This is the common picture referred to in Deut. 33:12.

Psalm 4:8 AMPC … In peace I will both lie down and sleep, for You, Lord, alone make me dwell in safety and confident trust.

Isaiah 4:5-6 AMP … And the Lord will create over the whole site, over every dwelling place of Mount Zion and over her assemblies, a cloud and smoke by day and the shining of a flaming fire by night; for over all the glory shall be a canopy (a defense of divine love and protection). And there shall be a pavilion[tabernacle] for shade in the daytime from the heat, and for a place of refuge and a shelter from storm and from rain.

From NetBible Isa 4:5-6

  • dwelling place[04349] = established place, habitation
  • canopy[02646] = divine protection, defense
    =>”over all the glory, a canopy.” This may allude to Exod 40:34-35, where a cloud overshadows the meeting tent as it is filled with God’s glory.
  • pavilion[05521] =tabernacle, booth
  • shade[06738] = shadow, protection, defense

Psalm 91:1-2, 4 AMP
1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
Will remain secure and rest in the shadow of the Almighty [whose power no enemy can withstand].
2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
My God, in whom I trust [with great confidence, and on whom I rely]!”
… He will cover you with His pinions, and under His wings shall you trust and find refuge; His truth and His faithfulness are a shield and a buckler.

From NetBible Ps 91:1

  • dwells[03427] = abides, remains, have one’s abode, to marry (give a dwelling to)
  • shelter[05643] = covering, hiding place, secret place
  • rest[03885] = abide, dwell, lodge{all night}
  • shadow[06738] = shade, protection, defense
  • *  In this psalm an individual (perhaps a priest) addresses one who has sought shelter in the Lord and assures him that God will protect him from danger (vv. 1-13). In vv. 14-16 God himself promises to keep his loyal follower safe.
  • * The Lord is compared here to a bird who protects its young under the shadow of its wings (see v. 4).
  • *  The divine name used here is “Shaddai” (שַׁדַּיshadday; see also Ps 68:14). Shaddai (or El Shaddai) is the mighty king (sovereign judge) of the world who grants life/blesses and kills/judges. In Genesis he blesses the patriarchs with fertility and promises numerous descendants. Outside Genesis he both blesses/protects and takes away life/happiness.

Thank You that as I come to You in prayer with thanksgiving, Your peace will guard my heart and mind thru Christ Jesus, Your son. Thanks be to God that this peace beyond understanding helps me to rest in Christ Jesus and wait patiently for Him!

The Beloved Dwell Between His Shoulders

July 8, 2010

I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint.
Jeremiah 31:25

This picture of the ‘hammock’ from my previous post and the promise of refreshment and rest in the Lord were still on my heart today. Look what I found out about the hammock! It’s related to this scripture.

Deuteronomy 33:12 Of Benjamin{“son of the right hand”} he said: “The beloved of the LORD shall dwell in safety{rest secure} by Him, Who shelters{covers} him all the day long; And he shall dwell between His shoulders.”

Quote:
Strange Scriptures That Perplex the Western Mind
By Barbara M. Bowen

This scripture refers to the Bible Land’s hammock or cradle, … It is a hammock … carried on the mother’s shoulders, with cords passing across her forehead. … How often we have seen a small hammock on the shoulders of a young mother, with a tiny face peeking out, or more often with a sleeping baby and a little foot or a small hand showing at the side of the hammock. When the mother carries the child, she will draw a part of her large white veil over the hammock as a protection against the hot sun, either partly or completely covering it. This is the common picture referred to in Deut. 33:12.

The ‘hammock’, the rest of the LORD
… is between His shoulders!
… the place of the cross.

He[the LORD] found him in a desert land And in the wasteland, a howling wilderness; He encircled him, He instructed him, He kept him as the apple of His eye. Like an eagle that stirs up its nest, That hovers over its young, He spread His wings and caught them, He carried them on His pinions … -Deut 32:10-11

You yourselves have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings, and brought you to Myself. -Ex 19:4

This is where the beloved – “son of the right hand”,
… is carried and covered!
Between the LORD’s shoulders
… lifted up, carried
… as an eagle bears her young upon her wings!

Notes:
Deuteronomy 33:12

—> beloved of the Lord – So called in allusion to their father Benjamin who was the beloved of his father Jacob
—>The Lord shall dwell, that is, his temple shall be placed, between his shoulders, that is, in his portion, or between his border’s as the word shoulder is often used. And this was truly the situation of the temple, on both sides whereof was Benjamin’s portion. And though mount Sion was in the tribe of Judah, yet mount Moriah, on which the temple was built, was in the tribe of Benjamin.

I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint.
Jeremiah 31:25

Call out to the Lord with this promise when you are weary and overwhelmed. Not only does He “not faint” but He gives power to them who do faint.

Lord Jesus, I know you refresh the weary and satisfy the faint. I know my soul finds rest in You alone.

Refresh and satisfy my soul as only You can.
Amen.

Isaiah 40:28-31 AMP Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, does not faint or grow weary; there is no searching of His understanding.

29He gives power to the faint and weary, and to him who has no might He increases strength [causing it to multiply and making it to abound].

30Even youths shall faint and be weary, and [selected] young men shall feebly stumble and fall exhausted;

31But those who wait for the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope in Him] shall change and renew their strength and power; they shall lift their wings and mount up [close to God] as eagles [mount up to the sun]; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint or become tired.

Psalm 62:1 My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from Him.

Gonna try this a second time here,,,had a reply written out ready to post & “poof” off it went somewhere?  lol-it is retrievable through Holy Spirit. I was out in my front yard 2 days ago with my lil dog, Boo. I heard an eagle whistling & looked up, sure enough, there was what has been come to be known as the ‘neighborhood eagle’ soaring, only it is not alone, there are two eagles soaring.   This intrigued me. Standing there looking up, watching as they soared higher & higher I got such a grand sense of HIS Presence. I did not hear a car pull up, but all the sudden this car is sitting there on the street in front of me and this gal yells, “have you seen two big dogs roaming the neighborhood.” I mentioned I was too busy watching the eagles. She proceeds to tell me these two dogs attempted to jump her fence to get at her two lil dogs. I look down the road behind her car & here come these two big dogs barking, growling snarling. She begins to yell at them to ‘get out of here’. I scoop up my lil Boo & throw him in the front door. I turn around and discerned the fear coming out of this woman’s heart. As quickly as the dogs were coming up the street they turned and were headed down the street-like something herded the two of them to turn direction.  I know my angels were on the job here, “HE GIVES HIS ANGELS CHARGE OVER ME TO WATCH ME, TO PROTECT ME, & KEEP ME IN ALL OF MY WAYS.” HALLELUJAH!!! Is. 40 was played out for me there, assuring confirming to me that the Word of God is the LIVING WORD OF GOD. IT IS ALIVE WITH EVERYTHING WE NEED.  Thanks for posting this precious Sister Karen-will be praying & holding you up along with ALL our Brothers & Sisters here at OH. Love you ALL-shouting unto God with a voice of triumph; shouting unto God with a voice of praise. HIS Kingdom is growing in our hearts & HIS will is manfesting in the earth! Therefore in their land they shall possess double;
Everlasting joy shall be theirs.
