The Hand of the Lord Came Upon

October 18, 2015

Psalm 139:5 NIV … You hem me in—behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me.

I was thinking about the Lord “hemming me in” and looking at the above image. The image looks like the secret place of Psalm 91 beneath the wings of the Lord. The secret place on high before the Lord’s throne from my previous post (Flying Soaring Wings)

Then I remembered Ezekiel 40:1-2, where the Lord brought Ezekiel to a “very high mountain”! Again this made me think of the secret place on high before the Lord’s throne. Notice below, before the Lord brought Ezekiel to this high mountain – the hand of the Lord was upon him. It’s from this high mountain that Ezekiel receives a vision from the Lord. In Ezekiel God’s hand being on the prophet Ezekiel is regularly associated with communication or a vision from God. Ezekiel 40:1-2 is especially interesting because it shows that this communication from God takes place on Mt Zion, the place where the Most High dwells, the secret place in the shadow of His wings. A place that you can only go to if God’s hand lifts you up and places you there(Ps 40:1-3)!

Ezekiel 40:1-2 NASB … In the twenty-fifth year of our exile, at the beginning of the year, on the tenth of the month, in the fourteenth year after the city was taken, on that same day the hand of the LORD was upon me and He brought me there. 2 In the visions of God He brought me into the land of Israel and set me on a very high mountain, and on it to the south there was a structure like a city.

From NetBible Ezek 40:1

  • *Hand upon in the OT can refer metaphorically to power, authority, or influence. In Ezekiel God’s hand being on the prophet is regularly associated with communication or a vision from God
    =>Ezekiel 1:1-3; 3:12-14, 22; 8:1; 37:1; 40:1

From NetBible Ezek 40:2

  • In the visions of God = By means of divine visions => The expression introduces the three major visions of Ezekiel (Ezekiel 1:1; 8:1,3; 40:1,2)
  • a very high mountain = harmonious with Isa 2:2
Isaiah 2:2 NASB … Now it will come about that In the last days The mountain of the house of the LORD Will be established as the chief of the mountains, And will be raised above the hills; And all the nations will stream to it.

    • * The image of Mount Zion being elevated above other mountains and hills pictures the prominence it will attain in the future.
    • * Mt Zion = the place where the Lord dwells = the secret place (Ps 132:13-14; Ps 91:1)

1 John 4:4-6 AMP
4 Little children, you are of God [you belong to Him] and have [already] defeated and overcome them [the agents of the antichrist], because He Who lives in you is greater (mightier) than he who is in the world.
5 They proceed from the world and are of the world; therefore it is out of the world [its whole economy morally considered] that they speak, and the world listens (pays attention) to them.
6 We are [children] of God. Whoever is learning to know God [progressively to perceive, recognize, and understand God by observation and experience, and to get an ever-clearer knowledge of Him] listens to us; and he who is not of God does not listen or pay attention to us. By this we know (recognize) the Spirit of Truth and the spirit of error.

Notice the “ground” of the overcomes’ victory
The Spirit of Truth –
Jn 4:24,16:13
A firm foundation
Jesus Christ the Rock of ages –
Is 26:4
A firm place to stand.
Ps 40:2

Be careful who you listen to, choose wisely
There are only 2 places to stand!

Greater is He who lives in the children of God
=> than He who is in the world.

John 10:27-29 AMP
27 The sheep that are My own hear and are listening to My voice; and I know them, and they follow Me. 28 And I give them eternal life, and they shall never lose it or perish throughout the ages. [To all eternity they shall never by any means be destroyed.] And no one is able to snatch them out of My hand. 29 My Father, Who has given them to Me, is greater and mightier than all [else]; and no one is able to snatch [them] out of the Father’s hand.

1 John 2:26-27 AMP
26 I write this to you with reference to those who would deceive you [seduce and lead you astray]. 27 But as for you, the anointing (the sacred appointment, the unction) which you received from Him abides [permanently] in you; [so] then you have no need that anyone should instruct you. But just as His anointing teaches you concerning everything and is true and is no falsehood, so you must abide in (live in, never depart from) Him [being rooted in Him, knit to Him], just as [His anointing] has taught you [to do].

1 Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer.
2 From the end of the earth will I cry to You, when my heart is overwhelmed and fainting; lead me to the rock that is higher than I [yes, a rock that is too high for me].
3 For You have been a shelter and a refuge for me, a strong tower against the adversary.
4 I will dwell in Your tabernacle forever; let me find refuge and trust in the shelter of Your wings. Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!

Isaiah 42:10-13 KJV … Sing unto the Lord a new song, and His praise from the end of the earth, ye that go down to the sea, and all that is therein; the isles, and the inhabitants thereof.
11  Let the wilderness and the cities thereof lift up their voice, the villages that Kedar doth inhabit: let the inhabitants of the rock sing, let them shout from the top of the mountains.
12 Let them give glory unto the Lord, and declare His praise in the islands.
13 The Lord shall go forth as a mighty man, He shall stir up jealousy like a man of war: He shall cry, yea, roar; He shall prevail against His enemies.

The ROCK – Jacob’s Stone

October 25, 2009

ALL references are to a specific rock. Not “a” rock, not “some” rock, not “rock”, but THE ROCK.

Jacob’s Stone

He lays his head on a rock, has a dream of God, and calls the rock “House of God.” His family carries that rock around for the next 38 centuries. It becomes their symbolic throne, their water supply, the type of their coming Deliverer, their coronation symbol, and it even roars when the proper king is crowned.

  • Gen 28:10-14 Jacob puts his pillows on a rock, dreams of a ladder to heaven.
  • Gen 28:18-22 He sets up the rock for a pillar (of witness), anoints it with oil, naming it “Beth-el”; Jacob also names the place Beth-el (House of God)
  • Gen 31:13 God validates Jacob’s “Bethel” name and anointing.
  • Gen 35:9-15 Jacob’s name is changed to Israel, God reconfirms His promises, Jacob again annoints and names the place Bethel.
  • Gen 49:24 The Stone of Israel (Jacob); the Shepherd is passed on to Joseph
  • Josh 24:24-27 Joshua sets up the Stone at Shechem for a witness.
  • I Kin 12:1 Rehoboam goes to Shechem (in Ephraim) to be crowned king of Judah.
  • I Kin 12:25 Shechem is established as the capitol of the kingdom of Israel.
  • II Kin 11:13-14( II Chr 23:13) Joash is crowned by a pillar, “as the manner was.”
  • II Kin 23:3(II Chr 34:31) Josiah’s covenant by a pillar.
  • Jud 9:1,6 Abimelech is Gideon’s son; he is crowned by the pillar at Shechem.
  • Hos 3:4 Israel is to be without a standing pillar.

Lead Me to the Higher Rock

June 26, 2009

Psalm 61:2 AMP
From the end of the earth will I cry to You, when my heart is overwhelmed and fainting; lead me to the rock that is higher than I [yes, a rock that is too high for me].

A rock I can not reach on my own
A rock that I must be placed upon ….

A firm place to stand.

Psalm 40:1-3 AMP
I WAITED patiently and expectantly for the Lord; and He inclined to me and heard my cry. He drew me up out of a horrible pit [a pit of tumult and of destruction], out of the miry clay (froth and slime), and set my feet upon a rock, steadying my steps and establishing my goings. And He has put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many shall see and fear (revere and worship) and put their trust and confident reliance in the Lord.

Psalm 5:11-12 AMP
But let all those who take refuge and put their trust in You rejoice; let them ever sing and shout for joy, because You make a covering over them and defend them; let those also who love Your name be joyful in You and be in high spirits. For You, Lord, will bless the [uncompromisingly] righteous [him who is upright and in right standing with You]; as with a shield You will surround him with goodwill (pleasure and favor).

Exodus 33:22
… I will put you in a cleft in the rock and cover you with my hand …

Lord lead me to the Rock that is higher! Set my feet upon the Rock, a firm place to stand. O Lord, cover me with Your mighty hand. I long to dwell in your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings. Give me Your word for such a time as this. Put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise, a sacrifice of joy to our God. That many shall see and fear (revere and worship) and put their trust and confident reliance in our Lord Jesus Christ.

O LORD lead me to a Rock that is higher than I. Lift me up!

Isaih 51:9-16 AMP
[Zion now cries to the Lord, the God of Israel] Awake, awake, put on strength and might, O arm of the Lord; awake, as in the ancient days, as in the generations of long ago. Was it not You Who cut Rahab [Egypt] in pieces, Who pierced the dragon [symbol of Egypt]? Was it not You Who dried up the Red Sea, the waters of the great deep, Who made the depths of the sea a way for the redeemed to pass over? [Why then are we left so long in captivity?] [The Lord God says] And the redeemed of the Lord shall return and come with singing to Zion; everlasting joy shall be upon their heads. They shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

I, even I, am He Who comforts you. Who are you, that you should be afraid of man, who shall die, and of a son of man, who shall be made [as destructible] as grass, That you should forget the Lord your Maker, Who stretched forth the heavens and laid the foundations of the earth, and fear continually every day because of the fury of the oppressor, when he makes ready to destroy or even though he did so? And where is the fury of the oppressor? The captive exile and he who is bent down by chains shall speedily be released; and he shall not die and go down to the pit of destruction, nor shall his food fail. For I am the Lord your God, Who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar and Who by rebuke restrains it–the Lord of hosts is His name.

And I have put My words in your mouth and have covered you with the shadow of My hand, that I may fix the [new] heavens as a tabernacle and lay the foundations of a [new] earth and say to Zion, You are My people.
