He who sacrifices thank-offerings honors Me, and he prepares the way so that I may show him the salvation{deliverance} of God. -Ps50:23

Isaiah 30:18 AMP … And therefore the Lord [earnestly] waits [expecting, looking, and longing] to be gracious to you; and therefore He lifts Himself up, that He may have mercy on you and show loving-kindness to you. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) are all those who [earnestly] wait for Him, who expect and look and long for Him [for His victory, His favor, His love, His peace, His joy, and His matchless, unbroken companionship]!

Psalm 27:4-9 AMP … One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek, inquire for, and [insistently] require: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord [in His presence] all the days of my life, to behold and gaze upon the beauty [the sweet attractiveness and the delightful loveliness] of the Lord and to meditate, consider, and inquire in His temple.

For in the day of trouble He will hide me in His shelter; in the secret place of His tent will He hide me; He will set me high upon a rock. And now shall my head be lifted up above my enemies round about me; in His tent I will offer sacrifices{thank-offerings} and shouting of joy; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the Lord.

Hear, O Lord, when I cry aloud; have mercy and be gracious to me and answer me! You have said, Seek My face [inquire for and require My presence as your vital need]. My heart says to You, Your face (Your presence), Lord, will I seek, inquire for, and require [of necessity and on the authority of Your Word]. Hide not Your face from me; turn not Your servant away in anger, You Who have been my help! Cast me not off, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation!

Psalm 100 – Seven Commands of Thanksgiving

November 17, 2012

Psalm 100 AMP
A Psalm of thanksgiving and for the thank offering.

1 MAKE A joyful noise to the Lord, all you lands!

2 Serve the Lord with gladness! Come before His presence with singing!

3 Know (perceive, recognize, and understand with approval) that the Lord is God! It is He Who has made us, not we ourselves [and we are His]! We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.

4 Enter into His gates with thanksgiving and a thank offering and into His courts with praise! Be thankful and say so to Him, bless and affectionately praise His name!

5 For the Lord is good; His mercy and loving-kindness are everlasting, His faithfulness and truth endure to all generations.

Look at the subtitle of this psalm, I never realized before that psalm 100, a psalm of thanksgiving was “for the thank offering”. Look at the above psalm, it’s interesting that it contains seven ways to praise and that these ways to praise are also commands: seven commands of thanksgiving!

Do you want to say thank you to the Lord Jesus Christ?
Seven Commands of Thanksgiving:

  1. Make a joyful noise{with the voice of triumph} to the Lord
  2. Serve the Lord with gladness{with exceeding joy, glee}
  3. Come before His presence with{joyful triumphant} singing
  4. Enter His gates with thanksgiving{a thank offering, a sacrifice of praise, adoration}
  5. Enter into His courts with praise{associated with singing a new song}
  6. Be thankful to Him{with all you heart}
  7. Bless and affectionately praise His name{as if kneeling to your King}

.

Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that give thanks to His name. -Heb 13:15

Seven Reasons and Seven Ways to Praise!
Psalm 100 Study – 7 Ways to Praise

A Sacrifice of Praise

February 23, 2011

Hebrews 13:15 NIV  Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that confess His name.

Through Jesus! Without Jesus we can not bear fruit.

Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me. -Jn 15:4

Through Jesus! Together as we assemble and offer a sacrifice of praise – a thank offering: singing praises to honor His name
—> this is a way of abiding with Him and bearing fruit
—> the fruit of our lips!

Why should we assemble together and honor His name in this way?

  1. Because of His mercy, unfailing love and faithfulness and because His promises are backed by all the honor of His name.
  2. This is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Psalm 138:2 I bow before Your holy Temple as I worship. I will give thanks to Your name for Your unfailing love and faithfulness, because Your promises are backed by all the honor of Your name.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything{in all circumstances} give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Lord help us to always come before You offering our praises with our whole hearts. Thank You that as we do this we will abide in You and You in us.

Drink Offering

Drink Offering

September 28, 2009

Psalm 23:5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

Psalm 116:12-17 What shall I render to the LORD for all His benefits toward me{all He has poured out on me}? I will lift up the cup of salvation{deliverance} and call on the name of the LORD. I will fulfil my vows to the LORD in the presence of all His people. Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints. O LORD, truly I am your servant; I am your servant, the son of your maidservant; you have freed me from my chains. To You I shall offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving, and call upon the name of the LORD.

The overflowing cup, pouring forth, I never realized before that this image represents the pouring out of a drink offering!

From http://bible.cc/psalms/116-13.htm
In the Law they used to make a banquet when they gave solemn thanks to God, and to take the cup and drink is a sign of thanksgiving. The cup of salvation-the drink offering was part of the thank offering.

Numbers 15:3-5 ‘and you make an offering by fire to the LORD, a burnt offering or a sacrifice, to fulfill a vow or as a freewill offering or in your appointed feasts, to make a sweet aroma to the LORD, from the herd or the flock, ‘then he who presents his offering to the LORD shall bring a grain offering of one–tenth of an ephah of fine flour mixed with one–fourth of a hin of oil; ‘and one–fourth of a hin of wine as a drink offering you shall prepare with the burnt offering or the sacrifice, for each lamb.

The drink offering is poured out on the burnt offering along with the grain offering mixed with oil. Lambs were used as burnt offerings. Jesus as our Passover Lamb (1 Cor 5:7) is a picture of a burnt offering. When Jesus says “my flesh is real{true} food and my blood is real{true} drink” (Jn 6:55) it’s a picture of His blood as a drink offering (Phil 2:17; 2 Tim 4:6) and His body as a grain offering; the wine and the bread.

The overflowing cup, pouring forth in abundance, because Christ first drank the cup His Father set before Him(Mt 26:42;Lk 22:20;1 Cor 11:25).

Isaiah 53:12 Therefore, I will allot Him a portion with the great, and He will divide the booty with the strong; Because He *poured out Himself to death, and was numbered with the transgressors; Yet He Himself bore the sin of many, and interceded for the transgressors.

Philippians 2:5-11, 17 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7 but made Himself of no reputation{emptied, poured out Himself}, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. 9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. … But even if I am being poured out as a drink offering upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I rejoice and share my joy with you all.

It’s only because of Christ’s sacrifice that we can have communion with Him and with each other.

1 Corinthians 10:16-17 Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break a participation in the body of Christ? 17Because there is one loaf, we, who are many, are one body, for we all partake of the one loaf.

How beautiful is the cup of salvation lifted up; a cup overflowing with thanksgiving for all Christ has and is pouring out on us. Blood poured out from the broken body of the spotless Passover Lamb. Spiritual drink, spiritual food offered and consumed in the presence of His people. Living water flowing in abundance from the Rock(1 Cor 10:3-4; Ex 17:6; Num 20:11; Ps 78:15 ) Sing to the well, the well of your salvation, with the rod of your mouth strike the Rock that it may yield it’s living water for all who are thirsty to drink(Num 21:16-18;Num 20:8;Isa 11:1-4;Rev 22:17)!

Hebrews 13:15 Through Him{Jesus} then, let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that give thanks to His name.
