Psalm 5:1-3 … Give ear to my words, O Lord,
Consider my complaint.

And expectantly wait for Your answer
I will look up!

11 But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You;
Let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them;
Let those also who love Your name
Be joyful in You.

With favor You will surround him as with a shield.

Seek the Light of His Face

February 2, 2016

Psalm 44:3 NASB … For by their own sword they did not possess the land, And their own arm did not save them, But Your right hand and Your arm and the light of Your presence, For You favored{smiled on} them.

Psalm 42:5 NKJV … Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him For the help of His countenance.

From Netbible Ps 44:3
*“light of your face.” The idiom “light of your face” probably refers to a smile (see Eccl 8:1), which in turn suggests favor and blessing (see Num 6:25Pss 4:6; 31:16; 44:3; 67:1; 80:3, 7, 19; 89:15Dan 9:17).

From Netbible Ps 42:5
countenance[06440] = face, presence
help[03444] = saving intervention, victory

It is You, O LORD, who gives me light –Ps 27:1
In You alone the Light of Life –Jn 8:12
The light in the face of Christ that shines so bright –
2Co 4:6
It’s only in this Light that we can see –Ps 36:9
With all my heart I seek Your face
The light in the face of Christ => a vital necessity. –Jer 29:13

Yet will I praise You O LORD
For it’s the help of Your countenance
Your face, Your light, Your smile –Ps 44:3
That brings the victory!Ps 42:5

Psalm 27:1, 8 AMPC … The Lord is my Light and my Salvation—whom shall I fear or dread? The Lord is the Refuge and Stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid? …

From NetBible Ps 27:1

Jeremiah 29:13 AMPC … You will seek Me, inquire for, and require Me [as a vital necessity] and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.

I Shall Yet Praise Him

January 26, 2011

Psalm 42:5 Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him for the help of His countenance.

Last sunday during worship my heart was singing:

Praise You Lord Jesus for the help of Your countenance, for the light of Your face, for Your smile!

I knew it was from the above scripture. For the Lord showed me in the past the connection between His countenance, the light of His face, His favor and His smile.

Psalm 44:3 For by their own sword they did not possess the land, and their own arm did not save them, but Your right hand and Your arm and the light of Your presence, for You favored them, and smiled upon them.

Psalm 89:15 Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim You, who walk in the light of Your presence{face}, O LORD.

What I didn’t notice until just today when I looked this up again was that Psalm 42:11 & Psalm 43:5 were similar but not exactly the same as Psalm 42:5.

Psalm 42:11, 43:5 Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; For I shall yet praise Him, the help of my countenance and my God.

Did you see the difference? Instead of praising Him for the help of His countenance – His smile, it’s ‘my’ countenance! It’s as if the Lord’s antidote to a downcast soul is to start praising Him for the help of His face, presence, favor, smile. Try it and see if it doesn’t help your countenance. This really put a smile on my face!

Psalm 34:5 Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.

Praise You Lord Jesus for the help of Your countenance, for the light of Your face, for Your smile! Praise You Lord Jesus for the help of ‘my’ countenance, ‘my’ smile!
