Talitha Koum – Arise

February 6, 2018

Ponder Jesus stretching out His hand to raise someone up by gently taking their hand. This is powerful!!!

Artist: Michael Page
Talitha Koum – Yeshua (Jesus) took the hand of the dead girl and said to her, “Talitha koum” [meaning “little one, arise”]. I have allowed the words He spoke to evoke the idea of his talith, or prayer shawl, having played a part in this miracle as it had moments before with the healing of the lady who grasped the tzitzit fringe on the corners of His talith – Matthew 5.

.

Mark 1:29-31 NET … Now as soon as they left the synagogue, they entered Simon and Andrew’s house, with James and John. 30 Simon’s mother-in-law was lying down, sick with a fever, so they spoke to Jesus at once about her. 31 He came and raised her up by gently taking her hand. Then the fever left her and she began to serve them.

Mark 5:39-42 NET … When he entered he said to them, “Why are you distressed and weeping? The child is not dead but asleep.” 40 And they began making fun of him. But he put them all outside and he took the child’s father and mother and his own companions and went into the room where the child was. 41 Then, gently taking the child by the hand, he said to her, “Talitha koum,” which means, “Little girl, I say to you, get up{arise}.” 42 The girl got up at once and began to walk around (she was twelve years old). They were completely astonished at this.

The phrase Talitha Koum is probably linked to the Tallit – the hem of the prayer shawl Jesus wore.

From http://www.rabdavis.org/the-tallit-in-the-nt/:
In Mark 5:41 we read: Then Yahshua “took the child by the hand, and said to her, “Tallita kumi.” The text says this Hebrew phrase is to be interpreted, “Damsel, I say to you arise{kumi/koum[2891]}.” It seems this interpreting phrase may have been added to the gospel at a later time in an attempt to interpret “Tallita kumi.” The reason for believing this is that Tallita is not Hebrew for damsel or young girl. A more accurate translation of Tallita kumi is “ Arise to my Tallit or Arise even as my Tallit. A dramatic picture of Yahshua lifting her up with one hand and raising his Tallit heavenward with the other which is a customary way of prayer.

.

Did you see it?!!!!!! As Jesus gently takes someone’s hand to “raise” them up, the fringe – the hem of His prayer shawl rises along with His hand and arm. A beautiful image of Healing rising in His wings!

Hem = Healing in His Wings
Malachi 4:2 … But to you who fear My name The Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings;

From NetBible Mal 4:2

  • wings[03671] = wing, extremity, edge, winged, border, corner, shirt(of garment)
=>Ruth 2:12  … … May the LORD, the God of Israel, under whose wings [03671] you have come to take refuge, reward you fully
=>Ruth 3:9 … “Who are you?” he asked. “I am your servant Ruth,” she said. “Spread the corner of your garment [03671] over me, since you are a kinsman-redeemer.”

Luke 8:44 … She came up behind Jesus and touched the fringe of His robe. Immediately, the bleeding stopped.

From NetBible Lk 8:44

  • * The edge of his cloak refers to the kraspedon, the blue tassel{ tzitzit } on the garment that symbolized a Jewish man’s obedience to the law (Num 15:37-41). The woman thus touched the very part of Jesus’ clothing that indicated his ritual purity. {The issue of blood would have made her ritually unclean}
  • fringe/hem[2899] = tassel: the Jews had such appendages attached to their mantles to remind them of the law

.
Mark 6:56Wherever He entered into villages, cities, or in the country, they laid the sick in the marketplaces, and begged Him that they might just touch the hem[2899] of His garment. And as many as touched Him were made well.
.
Matthew 23:5But they do all their deeds to be noticed by men; for they broaden their phylacteries and lengthen the tassels[2899] of their garments.

From NetBible Mt 23:5

  • * Phylacteries were small leather cases containing OT scripture verses, worn on the arm and forehead by Jews, especially when praying. The custom was derived from such OT passages as(Ex 13:9,16; Dt 6:8, 11:18)
  • * Tassels refer to the tassels that a male Israelite was obligated to wear on the four corners of his outer garment according to the Mosaic law (Num 15:38; Dt 22:12).

The Sun of Vindication

January 8, 2011

For for you who fear My name, the Sun of Righteousness will rise with healing in its wings; and you will go forth and skip about like calves from the stall. -Mal 4:2

Moreover the light of the moon will be as the light of the sun, And the light of the sun will be sevenfold, As the light of seven days, In the day that the LORD binds up the bruise of His people And heals the stroke of their wound. -Isa 30:26

Who is this that grows{rises} like the dawn, As beautiful as the full moon{white one}, As pure as the sun, As awesome as an army with banners{stars in procession}? -Song 6:10

Who are these that fly along like clouds, Like doves to their nests? -Isa 60:8

The Sun of Vindication IS rising for His people

They are crowned with everlasting joy

Their faces radiant

The moon reflecting the sun

The splendor of the King

The bright Morning Star.

…………………Isa 35:10;Isa 60:5,19-21;Jere 31:12;Rev 2:16,26-28

Those who have insight will shine brightly like the brightness of the expanse of heaven, and those who lead the many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever. -Dan 12:3

Streams in the desert

The rose blooms.

From NetBible Mal 4:2

* Here the Hebrew word צְדָקָה (tsÿdaqah), usually translated “righteousness” (so KJV, NIV, NRSV, NLT; cf. NAB “justice”), has been rendered as “vindication” because it is the vindication of God’s people that is in view in the context.

* The expression the sun of vindication will rise is a metaphorical way of describing the day of the Lord as a time of restoration when God vindicates his people (see 2 Sam 23:4; Isa 30:26; 60:1, 3). Their vindication and restoration will be as obvious and undeniable as the bright light of the rising sun.

Let Hope Rise

January 7, 2011

Hebrews 10:35-37 So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. Patient endurance is what you need now, so you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that He has promised. FOR YET IN A VERY LITTLE WHILE, HE WHO IS COMING WILL COME, AND WILL NOT DELAY.

Be strong and do not give up!

Remember it’s during the darkest part of the night
That the bright morning star appears
Before the glory on the wings of dawn.

Hope rises in the darkest part of the night.

Wait, hope for and expect the LORD; Be of good courage,
And He shall strengthen your heart;
Yes, wait for, hope for and expect the LORD! -Ps 27:14

Dawn, the Rising Son is never far behind the morning star.

Be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded. – 2 Chron 15:7

For those who revere His Holy name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings. — Mal 4:2

“I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.” … To him who overcomes and does my will to the end, I will give authority over the nations— ‘He will rule them with an iron scepter; he will dash them to pieces like pottery’— just as I have received authority from my Father. I will also give him the morning star. –Rev 2:16, 26-28

Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. -Rom 15:13

Hope Rises Midst the Darkness

November 9, 2009

I seem to have had a pretty ‘dark’ week. BUT  … the Lord encouraged me with an image to make, ‘Heb 10:35-37’ and the idea that it’s during this darkness that hope is born and rises. It’s during these dark times especially that He pours out His love refining our faith which is more precious than gold.

So look beyond the darkness!

For it’s during the darkest part of the night that the morning star appears, before the glory on the wings of dawn. As surely as we see the morning star arise, we will see the dawn. The morning star is never far from the rising sun.

To him who overcomes, an unspeakable brightness, joy and peace is given.

Dominion in Jesus Christ our Lord, the bright Morning Star.

Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. -Rom 15:13

Romans 8:23-25     And not only this, but also we ourselves, having the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our body. For in hope we have been saved, but hope that is seen is not hope; for who hopes for what he already sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, with *perseverance{patience} we wait eagerly for it.

Hebrews 10:35-37    So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. *Patient endurance is what you need now, so you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that He has promised. FOR YET IN A VERY LITTLE WHILE, HE WHO IS COMING WILL COME, AND WILL NOT DELAY.

From: Netbible Heb 10:36 & Netbible Rom 8:25
*patient endurance – hupomone [5281]
1) steadfastness, constancy, endurance
1a) in the NT the characteristic of a man who is not swerved from
his deliberate purpose and his loyalty to faith and piety by
even the greatest trials and sufferings
1b) patiently, and steadfastly
2) a patient, steadfast waiting for
3) a patient enduring, sustaining, perseverance

Romans 5:1-5 AMP THEREFORE, SINCE we are justified (acquitted, declared righteous, and given a right standing with God) through faith, let us [grasp the fact that we] have [the peace of reconciliation to hold and to enjoy] peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).
2Through Him also we have [our] access (entrance, introduction) by faith into this grace (state of God’s favor) in which we [firmly and safely] stand. And let us rejoice and exult in our hope of experiencing and enjoying the glory of God.
3Moreover [let us also be full of joy now!] let us exult and triumph in our troubles and rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that pressure and affliction and hardship produce patient and unswerving endurance.
4And endurance (fortitude) develops maturity of character (approved faith and tried integrity). And character [of this sort] produces [the habit of] joyful and confident hope of eternal salvation.
5Such hope never disappoints or deludes or shames us, for God’s love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit Who has been given to us.
