Psalm 63 – My Version

May 23, 2009

Psalm 63:1-5 NKJV      1 O God, You are my God;
         Early will I seek You;
         My soul thirsts for You;
         My flesh longs for You
         In a dry and thirsty land
         Where there is no water.

2 So I have looked for You in the sanctuary,
         To see Your power and Your glory.

3 Because Your lovingkindness is better than life,
         My lips shall praise You.

4 Thus I will bless You while I live;
         I will lift up my hands in Your name.

5 My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness,
         And my mouth shall praise
You with joyful lips.

I like to read different versions of the same scripture. This sometimes touches my heart and adds a deeper, richer meaning to what has been read. The following MSG version did this and more; it made me smile. 🙂

Psalm 63:1-5 MSG      1 God—you’re my God! I can’t get enough of you! I’ve worked up such hunger and thirst for God, traveling across dry and weary deserts.

 2-4 So here I am in the place of worship, eyes open,
      drinking in your strength and glory.
   In your generous love I am really living at last!
      My lips brim praises like fountains.
   I bless you every time I take a breath;
      My arms wave like banners of praise to you.

 5 I eat my fill of prime rib and gravy;
      I smack my lips. It’s time to shout praises!

It also inspired me to write my own version. Maybe it will inspire you too. Write your own version and share it here – leave it in the comments on this blog for others to enjoy!

Psalm 63:1-5 MY VERSION    1 O GOD, You are MY God,
As the deer pants for the streams of living water
I thirst for You Lord in a dry and weary land where no water is.

2 I’ve beheld Your power and Your glory in Your sanctuary.
O Lord, like David,  the ‘one thing’ I seek, to behold the beauty of  Your face!

3 I’ve tasted and seen and I know Your love is better than life! I praise You LORD!

4 I will bless You with my whole being lifting my hands in Your name

5 My mouth will show forth Your praise and I will be saturated with fullness of joy in Your presence. My cup overflows!
