Eat Only “True” Food

June 19, 2019

John 6:32,48,55-58 Amplified Bible (AMP)
32 Then Jesus said to them, “I assure you and most solemnly say to you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread out of heaven, but it is My Father who gives you the true bread out of heaven. …
… 48 I am the Bread of Life [the Living Bread which gives and sustains life]. …
… 55 For My flesh is true [spiritual] food, and My blood is true [spiritual] drink. 56 He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood [believes in Me, accepts Me as Savior] remains in Me, and I [in the same way remain] in him. 57 Just as the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, even so the one who feeds on Me [believes in Me, accepts Me as Savior] will also live because of Me. 58 This is the Bread which came down out of heaven. It is not like [the manna that] our fathers ate and they [eventually] died; the one who eats this Bread [believes in Me, accepts Me as Savior] will live forever.”

Matthew 13:10-13 Amplified Bible (AMP)
10 Then the disciples came to Him and asked, “Why do You speak to the crowds in parables?” 11 Jesus replied to them, “To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been granted. 12 For whoever has [spiritual wisdom because he is receptive to God’s word], to him more will be given, and he will be richly and abundantly supplied; but whoever does not have [spiritual wisdom because he has devalued God’s word], even what he has will be taken away from him. 13 This is the reason I speak to the crowds in parables: because while [having the power of] seeing they do not see, and while [having the power of] hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand and grasp [spiritual things].

Matthew 13:33 Amplified Bible (AMP)
The Leaven
33 He told them another parable, “The kingdom of heaven is like [a]leaven, which a woman took and worked into three [b]measures of flour until all of it was leavened.”

**Footnotes:
a. Matthew 13:33 This is the first time leaven is mentioned in the New Testament. See Ex 12:15 for the first mention of leaven in the Old Testament. The Hebrew word (seor) refers specifically to the leavening agent (as opposed to dough containing it), which today is thought of as yeast, a type of fungi. In Jewish thinking, leaven was symbolic of impurity and corruption. Jesus used it as a symbol for the corrupt and hypocritical teachings of the Pharisees and Sadducees (see especially Luke 12:1; cf Matt 16:11; Mark 8:15), but He also used leaven’s ability to permeate a mass of dough many times its own size as an illustration of the spread of the kingdom of heaven as here and in Luke 13:21.
b. Matthew 13:33 A measure was about a peck and a half, which would be enough bread to feed a hundred people.
.
Mark 4:24-25 Amplified Bible (AMP)
24 Then He said to them, “Pay attention to what you hear. By your own standard of measurement [that is, to the extent that you study spiritual truth and apply godly wisdom] it will be measured to you [and you will be given even greater ability to respond]—and more will be given to you besides. 25 For [a]whoever has [a teachable heart], to him more [understanding] will be given; and whoever does not have [a yearning for truth], even what he has will be taken away from him.”

***Footnotes:
a. Mark 4:25 The person “who has” is one who is receptive to God’s word, while the one “who does not have” is the person who is blind to and has rejected the spiritual truth and godly wisdom already given to him. As a result, even what little he had previously understood about Jesus will no longer be clear to him.

Eat ONLY True Bread!!!

Mark 4:24-25 NKJV … Then He said to them, “Take heed what you hear. With the same measure[measuring rod, standard of judgment] you use, it will be measured to you; and to you who hear, more will be given. 25 For whoever has[takes hold of, eats], to him more will be given; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.”

Mark 4:24-25 AMPC … And He said to them, Be careful what you are hearing. The measure [of thought and study] you give [to the truth you hear] will be the measure [of virtue and knowledge] that comes back to you–and more [besides] will be given to you who hear. 25For to him who has will more be given; and from him who has nothing, even what he has will be taken away [by force],

What you “eat” affects what you hear. Eat only “true bread”!

Amos 8:11 … Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord GOD, “That I will send a famine on the land, Not a famine of bread, Nor a thirst for water, But of HEARING[08085] {to hear intelligently, perceive, understand, obey} the words of the LORD.

True Food and True Drink

April 11, 2010

John 6:54-58 Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. 55For My flesh is true food, and My blood is true drink. 56He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides{dwells} in Me, and I in him. 57As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on{consumes} Me will live because of Me. 58This is the bread which came down from heaven––not as your fathers ate the manna, and are dead. He who eats{consumes} this bread will live forever.

Eating true bread and drinking true drink results in

—> eternal life and the promise of resurrection at the last day

—> abiding with Jesus, mutual indwelling

Notice that seeing /looking on and believing the Son has the same result.

John 6:40 And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who *sees[2334] the Son and *believes[4100] in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.

From Netbible Jn 6:40

note: Notice that here the result (having eternal life and being raised up at the last day) is produced by looking on the Son and believing in him. Compare John 6:54 where the same result is produced by eating Jesus’ flesh and drinking his blood. This suggests that the phrase in 6:54 (eats my flesh and drinks my blood) is to be understood in terms of the phrase here (looks on the Son and believes in Him).

*sees[2334] – theoreo
To see, to know, to experience, to perceive with the mind

*believes[4100] – pisteuo
To think to be true, conviction of truth,
To trust and have confidence in, intellectual faith

John 6:63 It is the Spirit who gives life[2227]{quickens}; the flesh{carnal mind[4561]} profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.

Romans 8:6 To be carnally[4561] minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

Romans 8:10-11 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin{the flesh profits nothing}, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also quicken[2227]{{give life to} your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.

Proverbs 2:1-5 My son, if you receive my words, and treasure my commands within you, 2So that you incline your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding; 3Yes, if you cry out for discernment, And lift up your voice for understanding, 4If you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures; 5 Then you will *understand[0995] the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.

*understand[0995] – biyn
To perceive, discern, to understand, know (with the mind)

——> In order to see and believe the Son, you must receive His words and treasure His commands
——> If you do not receive His words and treasure His commands your ears will not be open
——> You will not understand{with your mind} the fear of the LORD or find the knowledge of God.

Amos 8:11 Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord GOD, “That I will send a famine on the land, Not a famine of bread, Nor a thirst for water, But of HEARING[08085] {to hear intelligently, perceive, understand, obey} the words of the LORD.
