Truth and Biblical Love

May 6, 2016
Without obeying the Truth through the Holy Spirit can there be any real/sincere biblical love for each other? For the Father and the Son?

1 Peter 1:21-23 AMPC … Through Him you believe in (adhere to, rely on) God, Who raised Him up from the dead and gave Him honor and glory, so that your faith and hope are [centered and rest] in God. 22 Since by your obedience to the Truth through the [Holy] Spirit you have purified your hearts for the sincere affection of the brethren, [see that you] love one another fervently from a pure heart.  23 You have been regenerated (born again), not from a mortal origin (seed, sperm), but from one that is immortal by the ever living and lasting Word of God.

From NetBible 1 Pe 1:22

  • NKJV … Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart
  • BBE … And as you have made your souls clean, being ruled by what is true, and loving one another without deceit, see that your love is warm and from the heart
  • sincere[505] = genuine, without hypocrisy
  • pure[2513] = clean
    – purified by fire
    – like a vine cleansed by pruning and so fitted to bear fruit
    – free from every admixture of what is false, sincere genuine
  • “having purified,” as the preparation for the love described in the second half of the verse.

John 14:6,23-24 … Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. … Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me”.

From NetBible Jn 14:23

  • home[3438] = dwelling place, abode
    * to make an (one’s) abode
    * metaph. of the God the Holy Spirit indwelling believers
    *from Greek[3306] = residence

Love is to a Standard

2 John 1:4-6 AMP
4 I was greatly delighted to find some of your children walking (living) in [the] Truth, just as we have been commanded by the Father [Himself].
5 And now I beg you, lady (Cyria), not as if I were issuing a new charge (injunction or command), but [simply recalling to your mind] the one we have had from the beginning, that we love one another.
6 And what this love consists in is this: that we live and walk in accordance with and guided by His commandments (His orders, ordinances, precepts, teaching). This is the commandment, as you have heard from the beginning, that you continue to walk in love [guided by it and following it].

Notice that the above “love” is to a standard
To walk in love = To walk in His Truth
You can’t walk in love if you are not walking in His Truth!

1 John 2:3-5 NKJV
The Test of Knowing Him
3 Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. 4 He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5 But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him.

1 John 5:1-3 NKJV
5 Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves Him who begot also loves him who is begotten of Him. 2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.

Matthew 22:36-40 NKJV
36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”

37 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

Love is to a Standard=>You can’t walk in love IF you are not walking in His Truth!

Be Transformed

April 1, 2015

Colossians 2:20 AMP
20 If then you have died with Christ to material ways of looking at things and have escaped from the world’s crude and elemental notions and teachings of externalism, why do you live as if you still belong to the world? [Why do you submit to rules and regulations?—such as]

Romans 12:2 AMP
2 Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you].

Do not be conformed to this world
But be transformed
Renew your mind in Christ
Submit to His rule
CONTINUE to walk in union with and conformity to Him
=> that you may prove what is good, acceptable and
Pleasing in His sight for you!

Colossians 2:6-7 AMP
6 As you have therefore received Christ, [even] Jesus the Lord, [so] walk (regulate your lives and conduct yourselves) in union with and conformity to Him.
7 Have the roots [of your being] firmly and deeply planted [in Him, fixed and founded in Him], being continually built up in Him, becoming increasingly more confirmed and established in the faith, just as you were taught, and abounding and overflowing in it with thanksgiving.

From NetBible Col 2:6

  • walk[4043] = continue to live in obedience to, to make progress/grow in

From NetBible Col 2:7

  • rooted[4492] = to strengthen with roots, to render firm,
to fix, establish, cause a person or a thing to be thoroughly grounded
  • built up[2026] = To finish the structure of which the foundation{Christ} has already been laid, to give constant increase in knowledge and in a life conformed to Christ
  • established[950] = to make firm, sure, strong
  • overflow[4052] = abound, be in excess
*abounding is used of a flower going from a bud to full bloom.
  • thankfulness[2169] = gratitude, actively grateful

Colossians 2:6-7 NLT
6 And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to live in obedience to Him.
7 Let your roots grow down into Him and draw up nourishment from Him, so you will grow in faith, strong and vigorous in the truth you were taught. Let your lives overflow with thanksgiving for all He has done.

Walk Worthy

February 3, 2010

Ephesians 4:1 Therefore I, the prisoner of the Lord, implore you *to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called.

From Netbible Eph 4:1 -to walk – peripateo [4043]
to make one’s way, progress; to make due use of opportunities

  1. Walk in unityEph 4:1-16
There are “seven ones” in the unity of the Spirit!

    1. one body
    2. one Spirit
    3. one hope
    4. one Lord
    5. one faith
    6. one baptism
    7. one God
  2. Walk in purityEph 4:17-32
    1. Walk no longer in futility of mind
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. -Rom 12:2
    2. Lay aside the old self
Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. -Eph 4:31
    3. Put on the new self
Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you. -Eph 4:32
  3. Walk in loveEph 5:1-6
Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity. -Col 3:14If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. -1 Cor 13:1
  4. Walk in the lightEph 5:7-14
The fruit of the Light consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth. -Eph 5:9This is the message we have heard from Him and declare to you: God is light; in Him there is NO darkness at all {NO mixture}. If we claim to have fellowship with Him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin. -1 Jn 1:5-7
  5. Walk carefullyEph 5:15-17
    {circumspectly, attentively, diligently, alert}
For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding. -Col 1:9So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. -Eph 5:17
  6. Walk in harmonyEph 5:18-6:9
    1. Husbands and wives
    2. Parents and children
    3. Masters & servants

And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another in the fear of God. -Eph 5:18-21

Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thess 5:16-18

  7. Walk in victoryEph 6:10-24
Be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might! Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. -Eph 6:10-11

    1. Gird your lions with truth
    2. Put on the breastplate of righteousness
    3. Shod your feet with the Gospel of Peace
How beautiful are the feet of those who bring the good news! -Rom 10:15
    4. Take up the shield of faith
    5. Take the helmet of salvation
    6. Take sword of the Spirit which is the word of God
    7. Be alert and in prayer at all times
Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with an attitude of thanksgiving. -Col 4:2

Psalm 119:1 How blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the LORD.

Isaiah 35:8-10 A highway will be there, a roadway, and it will be called the Highway of Holiness. The unclean will not travel on it, but it will be for him who walks that way, and fools will not wander on it. 9No lion will be there, nor will any vicious beast go up on it; These will not be found there but the redeemed will walk there, 10And the ransomed of the LORD will return and come with joyful shouting to Zion, with everlasting joy upon their heads. They will find gladness and joy, and sorrow and sighing will flee away.
