Many Plans

August 29, 2015

Proverbs 19:21 AMP
Many plans are in a man’s mind, but it is the Lord’s purpose for him that will stand.

The heart can hold many plans that seem right
But only one plan – the Lord’s plan
=> Stands and brings life.
Jer 29:11-13

Woe to the rebellious children
Who take counsel and carry out a plan
Without consulting the Lord
=> This leads to death.

Commit whatever you do to the Lord, gaining His approval
=> then your plans will succeed and lead to Life!

Proverbs 16:25, 14:12 AMP
There is a way that seems right to a man and appears straight before him, but at the end of it is the way of death.

From NetBible Prov 14:12

  • The individual can rationalize all he wants, but the result is still the same. The proverb warns that any evil activity can take any number of ways (plural) to destruction.

Isaiah 30:1 AMP
Woe to the rebellious children, says the Lord, who take counsel and carry out a plan, but not Mine, and who make a league{alliance} and pour out a drink offering, but not of My Spirit, thus adding sin to sin.

From NetBible Isa 30:1

  • NET … “The rebellious children are as good as dead,” says the Lord, “those who make plans without consulting me, who form alliances without consulting my Spirit, and thereby compound their sin.
    • rebellious[05637] = stubborn, obstinate
    • Woe[01945]  = good as dead
    • and pouring out a libation{drink offering}, but not [from] my spirit.” = This translation assumes that the verb נָסַךְ (nasakh) means “pour out,” and that the cognate noun מַסֵּכָה (massekhah) means “libation.” In this case “pouring out a libation” alludes to a ceremony that formally ratifies an alliance. Another option is to understand the verb נָסַךְ as a homonym meaning “weave,” and the cognate noun מַסֵּכָה as a homonym meaning “covering.” In this case forming an alliance is likened to weaving a garment.

Proverbs 16:3 AMP
Roll your works upon the Lord [commit and trust them wholly to Him; He will cause your thoughts to become agreeable to His will, and] so shall your plans be established and succeed.

From NetBible Prov 16:3

  • Roll /Commit&Trust = portrays complete dependence on the Lord. This would be accomplished with a spirit of humility and by means of diligent prayer, but the plan must also have God’s approval.

From NetBible Prov 19:21

  • The plans in the human heart are many. But only those which God approves will succeed.
  • The point of the proverb is that the human being with many plans is uncertain, but the Lord with a sure plan gives correct counsel.
