Burning Bright

November 28, 2010

Abide in Me and let My word abide in you
That My joy and delight may be in you
And that your joy may be of full measure, complete and overflowing
Burning, shining bright
Magnifying Me
And glorifying the Father of Lights
Burning, shining bright
The very flame of the LORD
That can never be extinguished!

The joy of the LORD is your strength.

John 15:11 … These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.

Song 8:6 … Put me like a seal over your heart, Like a seal on your arm. For love is as strong as death, Jealousy is as severe as Sheol; Its flashes are flashes of fire, The very flame of the LORD.

John 1:5 … The light shines through the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.

Strengthened

November 24, 2010

Verse of the Day ->Colossians 2:6-7
Just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

Psalm 68:28 Your God has commanded your strength; Show Yourself strong, O God, who have acted on our behalf{Strenghten/confirm, O God, that which you have worked in us.}.

Phil 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me{I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him Who infuses inner strength into me}.

Psalm 18:35 You give me your protective shield; your right hand supports me; your willingness to help enables me to prevail.

O Lord be magnified, You are highly exalted
And there is NOTHING that You can’t do
Rise up O Sovereign Lord
Show Yourself strong
Hear the voice of your people call
Rise up and show Yourself strong
In our weakness You are always faithful
Always strong.

Let all who seek You rejoice and be glad in You; Let those who love Your salvation say continually,
“The LORD be magnified!” -Ps 40:16

O magnify the LORD with me,
And let us exalt His name together. -Ps 34:3

The smoldering wick only needs His breath to rest on it
Breath like fragrant apples
His apples of gold
His sweet fruit and scent to restore and refresh
The smoldering wick then bursts into flame
Shining the strength and glory of the Lord!

Proverbs 25:11
A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold In settings of silver.

Isaiah 50:4
The Lord GOD has given me an instructed tongue, That I may know how to sustain the weary one with a word. He awakens me morning by morning, He awakens my ear to listen like one being taught..

Song 2:4-5
He has brought me to his banquet hall, And his banner over me is love.  Sustain me with cakes of raisins, Refresh me with apples, For I am lovesick.

Speak Lord in the Stillness

November 21, 2010

I was thinking of quietness and trust this morning and found the hymn below. The words are beautiful!

Lord Jesus, quiet our hearts to wait expectantly for Your lead
Your words are life and do not return void
Touch our hearts
Touch our souls
To follow You
alone.

🙂

Speak, Lord, in the Stillness

Speak, Lord, in the stillness,
While I wait on Thee;
Hushed my heart to listen
In expectancy.

Speak, O blessed Master,
In this quiet hour,
Let me see Thy face Lord,
Feel Thy touch of power.

For the words Thou speakest,
“They are life” indeed;
Living Bread from heaven,
Now my spirit feed!

All to Thee is yielded,
I am not my own;
Blissful glad surrender,
I am Thine alone.

Fill me with the knowledge
Of Thy glorious will;
All Thine own good pleasure
In my life fulfill.

~Emily May Grimes

Isaiah 32:17 AMPC And the effect of righteousness will be peace [internal and external], and the result of righteousness will be quietness and confident trust forever.

Isaiah 30:15 AMPC For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel: In returning [to Me] and resting [in Me] you shall be saved; in quietness and in [trusting] confidence shall be your strength. But you would not.

Romans 14:17 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit …

Evening Sacrifice – Morning Offering

November 16, 2010

It was the third hour when they crucified Him. -Mk 15:25

Jesus was crucified, lifted up on the cross as our sacrifice at the third hour of the day, the time of morning sacrifice.

When the sixth hour came, darkness fell over the whole land until the ninth hour. At the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, “ELOI, ELOI, LAMA SABACHTHANI?” which is translated, “MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?” … And Jesus uttered a loud cry, and breathed His last. -Mk 15:33-34, 37

He remained on the cross until the ninth hour when He willingly yielded up His Spirit, the time of the evening sacrifice.

For this reason the Father loves Me, because I lay down My life so that I may take it again. No one has taken it away from Me, but I lay it down on My own initiative. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This commandment I received from My Father. -Jn 10:17-18

The other lamb you shall offer in the evening; as the morning grain offering and its drink offering, you shall offer it as an offering made by fire, a sweet aroma to the LORD. -Num 28:8

The evening sacrifice, Jesus the Lamb of God upon the cross, produced in His resurrection a morning offering, a sweet aroma, a sweet incense rising up to the throne of God.

Let my prayer be set forth before You as incense, and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice. -Psalm 141:2

Let us test and examine our ways, and let us return to the Lord! Let us lift up our hearts and our hands [and then with them mount up in prayer] to God in heaven. -Lam 3:40-41 AMP

Behold, bless the LORD, All you servants of the LORD, Who by night stand in the house of the LORD! Lift up your hands in holiness and to the sanctuary and bless the Lord [affectionately and gratefully praise Him]! The LORD who made heaven and earth Bless you from Zion! -Ps 134

So will I bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name. -Ps 63:4

From NetBible: Hours Of Prayer

The regular hours of prayer were three in number, as we may infer from Ps 55:17;Dan 6:10. The first coincided with the morning sacrifice, at the 3rd hour of the morning, at 9 AM therefore (Acts 2:15). The second was at the 6th hour, or at noon, and may have coincided with the thanksgiving for the chief meal of the day, a religious custom apparently universally observed (Mt 15:36; Acts 27:35). The 3rd hour of prayer coincided with the evening sacrifice, at the ninth hour (Acts 3:1, 10:30).

Show Me Your Glory

November 9, 2010

Here is a ‘mini’ study about God’s glory, goodness and proclaiming His name.

1. Read exodus 33:18-22 and 34:5-7. note that in chapter 33, God announces what He is going to show Moses and then shows him in chapter 34. List what those verses tell you about who God is.

Exodus 33:18-22
18 Then Moses said, “Now show me your glory.”

19 And the LORD said, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the LORD, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. 20 But,” he said, “you cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live.”

21 Then the LORD said, “There is a place near me where you may stand on a rock. 22 When my glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft in the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by. 23 Then I will remove my hand and you will see my back; but my face must not be seen.”

Exodus 34:5-7
5 Then the LORD came down in the cloud and stood there with him and proclaimed his name, the LORD. 6 And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, “The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, 7 maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation.”

2. Read the list of characteristics God revealed to Moses. Note which is the easiest and which is the most challenging for you to believe is a part of His goodness.

3. What causes you to question God’s goodness?

4. Meditate on the following words from an ancient hymn. How do you think God’s goodness and the other aspects of His character can “bind” our hearts to Him?

“Let Thy goodness like a fetter
Bind my wandering heart to Thee”

I Know God Is Good, But…

But the LORD

November 7, 2010

Psalm 118:11-14
They surrounded me, Yes, they surrounded me
{Hemmed in and with no way out};
… But in the name of the LORD I will destroy them{push them away}.
They surrounded me like bees;
… They were quenched like a fire of thorns
{they died out as quickly as burning thorns};
… For in the name of the LORD I will destroy them{push them away}.
I was pushed back and about to fall,
… but the LORD helped{succor, surround, protect} me.
The LORD is my strength and song, and He has become my salvation.

You may feel as if you are surrounded
Hard pressed on every side
As if hemmed in by a dark cloud of swarming bees.

You may feel as if you are about to fall.

Don’t be afraid,

The Lord is our help, our protective sheild
Our strength, our song.

Come into His presence
Sing in the shadow of His wings
Sing for joy

For underneath are the everlasting arms
His right hand upholds.

Psalm 63:7-8
Because You are my help, I sing in the shadow of Your wings.
My soul clings to{follows hard after} You; Your right hand upholds me.

Deuteronomy 33:27
The eternal God is your refuge, And underneath are the everlasting arms; He will thrust out the enemy from before you, And will say, ‘Destroy!’

All That I Can Say
David Crowder

Lord I’m tired
So tired from walking
And Lord I’m so alone
And Lord the dark
Is creeping in
Creeping up
To swallow me
I think I’ll stop
Rest here a while

Chorus:
And this is all that I can say right now
And this is all that I can give
And this is all that I can say right now
And this is all that I can give, thats my everything

And didn’t You see me cry’n?
And didn’t You hear me call Your name?
Wasn’t it You I gave my heart to?
I wish You’d remember
Where you sat it down

Chorus:
And this is all that I can say right now, i know its not much.
But this is all that I can give, yeah thats my everything.
This is all that I can say right now [right now], i know its not much.
But this is all that I can give, yeah thats my everything.

Bridge:
I didn’t notice You were standing here
I didn’t know that
That was You holding me
I didn’t notice You were cry’n too
I didn’t know that
That was You washing my feet

And this is all that I can say right now, oh i know its not much.
But this is all that I can give, yeah thats my everything.
This is all that I can say right now [right now], i know its not much.
But this is all that I can give, yeah thats my everything.
And this is all that I can say right now, oh i know its not much.
But this is all that I can give, yeah thats my everything.

yeah thats my everything [2x]

everything……..

Established Steps

November 5, 2010

Psalm 40:2 NASB He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay, And He set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm.

Psalm 37:23-24 NIV If the LORD delights in a man’s way, He makes his steps firm; though he stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD upholds him with His hand.

2 Corinthians 1:21-22 AMP But it is God Who confirms and makes us steadfast and establishes us [in joint fellowship] with you in Christ, and has consecrated and anointed us [enduing us with the gifts of the Holy Spirit];
22[He has also appropriated and acknowledged us as His by] putting His seal upon us and giving us His [Holy] Spirit in our hearts as the security deposit and guarantee [of the fulfillment of His promise].

Proverbs 3:5-6 NKJV Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

Psalm 85:13 NKJV Righteousness will go before Him, And shall make His footsteps our pathway.

Word Study

NetBible Ps 40:2
firm[03559]
to be stable, to be established
to be prepared, be arranged, be settled
to fix, make ready, prepare, provide, provide for, furnish
to confirm

NetBible Ps 37:23-24
Footnote:
1 tn Heb “from the Lord the steps of a man are established, and in his way he delights.” The second line qualifies the first. The man whose behavior is commendable in God’s sight is the one whose ways are established by God. Another option is that the second line refers to the godly man delighting in God’s “way,” namely the lifestyle which he prescribes for men. In this case one might translate, “The Lord grants success to the one who desires to obey his commands.”

NetBible 2 Cor 1:21-22
establish [950]
to make firm, establish, confirm, make sure
From [949]
stable, fast, firm
metaph. sure, trusty
From [939]
a stepping, walking, that with which one steps, the foot, pace

NetBible Prov 3:5-6
footnotes:
1 sn The word בְּטַח (bÿtakh, “trust”) is used in the OT in (1) literal physical sense: to physically lean upon something for support and (2) figurative sense: to rely upon someone or something for help or protection (BDB 105 s.v. I בְּטַח; HALOT 120 s.v. I בטח). The verb is often used with false securities, people trusting in things that prove to be worthless. But here the object of the secure trust is the Lord who is a reliable object of confidence.

1 tn Heb “know him.” The verb יָדַע (yadah, “to know”) includes mental awareness of who God is and the consequential submission to his lordship. To know him is to obey him. The sage is calling for a life of trust and obedience in which the disciple sees the Lord in every event and relies on him. To acknowledge the Lord in every event means trusting and obeying him for guidance in right conduct.

NetBible Ps 85:13
footnote:
3 tn Heb “and it prepares for a way his footsteps.” Some suggest emending וְיָשֵׂם (vÿyasem, “and prepares”) to וְשָׁלוֹם(vÿshalom, “and peace”) since “deliverance” and “peace” are closely related earlier in v. 13. This could be translated, “and peace [goes ahead, making] a pathway for his footsteps” (cf. NEB).

This is comforting to me —
His peace goes ahead and makes a way
Trust the Lord Jesus Christ
Lean on Him
Delight in His way
He will establish your steps
and uphold you.
He will not let your foot slip or … -Ps 121:3
Let go of your hand!

May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it! -1 Thess 5:23-24

Two Kinds of Shadows

November 2, 2010

Worry often gives a small thing a big shadow. ~Swedish Proverb

Psalm 23:4 NKJV … Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

Psalm 36:7-9 NIV … How priceless is your unfailing love! Both high and low among men find refuge in the shadow of your wings. They feast in the abundance of your house; you give them drink from your river of delights. For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light.

Psalm 91:1,4 AMP … He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty [Whose power no foe can withstand]. … He will cover you with His pinions, and under His wings shall you trust and find refuge; His truth and His faithfulness are a shield and a buckler.

“Two kinds of shadows. When we are in the shadow worry (Ps 23:4), we need the shadow of wings (Ps 36.7)” – John Piper

Psalm 17:8 NIV … Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings.
