Spiritual Blessings

November 29, 2019

Ephesians 1:3-4 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)
3 May blessing (praise, laudation, and eulogy) be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah) Who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual (given by the Holy Spirit) blessing in the heavenly realm!
4 Even as [in His love] He chose us [actually picked us out for Himself as His own] in Christ before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy (consecrated and set apart for Him) and blameless in His sight, even above reproach, before Him in love.

.
Blessing = Made alive in Christ through the cross
=> forgiveness of sin

  • Colossians 2:13-14 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)
13 And you who were dead in trespasses and in the uncircumcision of your flesh (your sensuality, your sinful carnal nature), [God] brought to life together with [Christ], having [freely] forgiven us all our transgressions, 14 Having cancelled and blotted out and wiped away the handwriting of the note (bond) with its legal decrees and demands which was in force and stood against us (hostile to us). This [note with its regulations, decrees, and demands] He set aside and cleared completely out of our way by nailing it to [His] cross.
    .
Ephesians 2:4-5 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)
4 But God—so rich is He in His mercy! Because of and in order to satisfy the great and wonderful and intense love with which He loved us,
5 Even when we were dead (slain) by [our own] shortcomings and trespasses, He made us alive together in fellowship and in union with Christ; [He gave us the very life of Christ Himself, the same new life with which He quickened Him, for] it is by grace (His favor and mercy which you did not deserve) that you are saved (delivered from judgment and made partakers of Christ’s salvation).

    .
1 Peter 2:24 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)
24 He personally bore our sins in His [own] body on the tree [as on an altar and offered Himself on it], that we might die (cease to exist) to sin and live to righteousness. By His wounds you have been healed.

.
Blessing = [draw your strength from Him and be empowered through your union with Him]

  • Ephesians 6:10-11 Amplified Bible (AMP)
    The Armor of God
10 In conclusion, be strong in the Lord [draw your strength from Him and be empowered through your union with Him] and in the power of His [boundless] might. 11 Put on the full armor of God [for His precepts are like the splendid armor of a heavily-armed soldier], so that you may be able to [successfully] stand up against all the schemes and the strategies and the deceits of the devil.

.
Blessing = righteousness, heart peace and joy in the Holy Spirit

  • Romans 14:17 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)
17 [After all] the kingdom of God is not a matter of [getting the] food and drink [one likes], but instead it is righteousness (that state which makes a person acceptable to God) and [heart] peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

.
Blessing = Peace which surpasses all understanding
=> Not of this world!

  • Philippians 4:6-7 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)
6 Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God. 7 And God’s peace [shall be yours, that tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and being content with its earthly lot of whatever sort that is, that peace] which transcends all understanding shall garrison and mount guard over your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
    .
John 14:27 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)
27 Peace I leave with you; My [own] peace I now give and bequeath to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. [Stop allowing yourselves to be agitated and disturbed; and do not permit yourselves to be fearful and intimidated and cowardly and unsettled.]
    .
Ephesians 2:14 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)
14 For He is [Himself] our peace (our bond of unity and harmony). He has made us both [Jew and Gentile] one [body], and has broken down (destroyed, abolished) the hostile dividing wall between us

.
Blessing = the fruit of the Holy Spirit

  • Galatians 5:22-23 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)
22 But the fruit of the [Holy] Spirit [the work which His presence within accomplishes] is love, joy (gladness), peace, patience (an even temper, forbearance), kindness, goodness (benevolence), faithfulness,
23 Gentleness (meekness, humility), self-control (self-restraint, continence). Against such things there is no law [that can bring a charge].

.
Blessing = being in the Good Shepherd’s flock!

  • .
Psalm 23 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)
1 The Lord is my Shepherd [to feed, guide, and shield me], I shall not lack.
2 He makes me lie down in [fresh, tender] green pastures; He leads me beside the still and restful waters.
3 He refreshes and restores my life (my self); He leads me in the paths of righteousness [uprightness and right standing with Him—not for my earning it, but] for His name’s sake.
4 Yes, though I walk through the [deep, sunless] valley of the shadow of death, I will fear or dread no evil, for You are with me; Your rod [to protect] and Your staff [to guide], they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my [brimming] cup runs over.
6 Surely or only goodness, mercy, and unfailing love shall follow me all the days of my life, and through the length of my days the house of the Lord [and His presence] shall be my dwelling place.

    .
John 10:4 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)
4 When He{Good Shepherd} has brought His own sheep outside, He walks on before them, and the sheep follow Him because they know His voice.

Notes Perfect Fit 1 Overview
.
Paul the author of Ephesians was Eph 1:1;Eph 3:1,7,13;Eph 4:1; Eph 6:19-20
.

  • An apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God –Ephesians 1:1
    • not from men, nor by human agency, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father who raised him from the dead –Galatians 1:1
Paul’s authority as an apostle comes from God – notice the trinity?
  • Prisoner of Christ
The prisoner of Christ Jesus for you Gentiles– –Ephesians 3:1
    .
Therefore, I, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called –Ephesians 4:1

    • Ephesians is grouped with Philippians, Colossians, Philemon, 2 Timothy, as an Epistle written from prison{in Rome}.
    • Not only a prisoner in Rome but of Christ=>under all aspects of life Paul belongs to Christ. Whatever he is, does, or suffers, it is as Christ’s property. There is also an obvious reference to the fact that his imprisonment was for Christ’s cause=>the sake of the Gentiles
    • Ephesians 3:1;Ephesians 4:1;Philemon 1:1; Philemon 1:9; 2 Timothy 1:8
  • A servant of this gospel by the gift of God’s grace given me{Paul} through the working of His power. –Ephesians 3:7
    • .
  • Ephesians 3:13 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)
13 So I ask you not to lose heart [not to faint or become despondent through fear] at what I am suffering in your behalf. [Rather glory in it] for it is an honor to you. –Ephesians 3:13

    • *Paul’s suffering has brought about their salvation, =>his suffering/tribulation must be viewed as more than his present imprisonment in Rome; it would be a general description of his ministry overall
    • *Philippians 1:27-28 offers an interesting parallel: The believers’ courage in the face of adversity is a sign of their salvation.
  • Pray also for me, so that when I speak, a message may be given to me to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak. –Ephesians 6:19-20
    • .

2 But his delight and desire are in the law of the Lord, and on His law (the precepts, the instructions, the teachings of God) he habitually meditates (ponders and studies) by day and by night.
3 And he shall be like a tree firmly planted [and tended] by the streams of water, ready to bring forth its fruit in its season; its leaf also shall not fade or wither; and everything he does shall prosper [and come to maturity].

.

Word Study
.
From NetBible Ps 56:4
In God (I will praise His word), In God I have put my trust; I will not fear. What can flesh do to me?

  • * praise His word = boast in His promise
  • * God’s “word” is here understood as an assuring promise of protection. Another option (2) is to translate, “in God I will boast [with] a word.” In this case, the “word” is a song of praise. The present translation reflects yet another option (3): In this case “I praise his word” is a parenthetical statement, with “his word” being the object of the verb.

.
From NetBible Ps 46:10
Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!

  • Be still and know = cease/stop striving and recognize, be at peace in the knowledge
    • * To the nations who rage against God and His people, this is a rebuke to stop fighting/ striving against the Sovereign Lord
    • * To God’s children this is a call to trust and rest secure in the Sovereign Lord’s protection
  • exalted means recognized as Sovereign King => The Lord of Hosts, King of Glory(Ps 24:10) who fights and delivers on behalf of His children(Ps 46:11)
