Unfailing Faithfulness

May 31, 2013

Psalm 89:33 AMP … Nevertheless, My loving-kindness will I not break off from him, nor allow My faithfulness to fail [to lie and be false to him].

I will never remove My loving-kindness
Nor allow My faithfulness to fail!

From Ps 89:33

  • loving-kindness[02617] = goodness, kindness, faithfulness, mercy, loyal love
  • faithfulness[0530] = firmness, fidelity, steadfastness, loyalty, truthfulness

I AM a God who can not tell or act a lie!

God is not a man, that He should tell or act a lie, neither the son of man, that He should feel repentance or compunction [for what He has promised]. Has He said and shall He not do it? Or has He spoken and shall He not make it good? -Nu 23:19

The grass withers, the flower fades,
But MY word will not return void
My word and faithfulness stands firm forever!

From the LORD Comes Deliverance

May 29, 2013

Psalm 3
A psalm of David, written when he fled from his son Absalom.

O LORD, how many are my foes! How many rise up against me!
Many are saying of me, “God will not deliver him.” Selah

But You, O LORD, are a shield about me, My glory, and the One who lifts my head.

To the Lord I cried out, and He answered me from His Holy Hill. (Selah)

I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the LORD sustains{protects} me.

I will not fear the tens of thousands drawn up against me on every side. Arise, O LORD! Deliver me, O my God! Strike all my enemies on the jaw; break the teeth of the wicked.

From the LORD comes deliverance. May Your blessing be on Your people. Selah

***

Deliverance comes from the LORD alone

Who may ascend into the hill of the LORD? And who may stand in His holy place? –> He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to an idol or swear by what is false. He will receive blessing from the LORD and vindication from God his Saviour. -Ps 24:3-5

He is the King of Glory!
The LORD strong and mighty
Mighty in battle!

The LORD of hosts, He is the King of glory!

Lift up your heads, O gates{of praise}, And be lifted up, O ancient doors, That the King of glory may come in! -Ps24:7-10;Ps84:5;Is 60:18

Sing and make music to the LORD
Offer sacrifices of joy in His tabernacle.
-Ps27:6

Be lifted up in triumph as the blessing of the Lord rests upon you!

Word Study
From NetBible Ps 3

  • The psalmist acknowledges that he is confronted by many enemies (vv. 1-2). But, alluding to a divine oracle he has received (vv. 4-5), he affirms his confidence in God’s ability to protect him (vv. 3, 6) and requests that God make his promise a reality (vv. 7-8).

From NetBible Ps 3:4

  • Sometime after the crisis arose, the psalmist prayed to the Lord and received an assuring answer. Now he confidently awaits the fulfillment of the divine promise.

From NetBible Ps 3:5

  • When the psalmist received an assuring word from the Lord, he was able to sleep calmly – for he was confident of God’s continual protection. –> Because the Lord was protecting him, he awoke safely from his sleep.

From NetBible Ps 3:8

  • In this context God’s “blessing” includes deliverance/protection, vindication, and sustained life (see Pss 21:3, 6; 24:5).

Burdens Bearer

May 27, 2013

Psalm 81:6 … I removed his shoulder from the burden; His hands were freed from the baskets.

From NetBible Ps 81:6

  • * I removed the burden. The Lord speaks metaphorically of how he delivered his people from Egyptian bondage. The reference to a basket/burden probably alludes to the hard labor of the Israelites in Egypt, where they had to carry loads of bricks (see Exod 1:14).

Cast your burden on the Lord [releasing the weight of it] and He will sustain you; He will never allow the [consistently] righteous to be moved (made to slip, fall, or fail). -Ps 55:22 AMP

Blessed be the Lord, praise God our savior! Day after day He bears our burdens and carries us in His arms. -Ps 68:19

Lord Jesus, thank You for every burden You have lifted off of my shoulders; For carrying the burdens I am not able to carry.

Gracious Winsome Speech

May 22, 2013

Proverbs 16:21 AMP … The wise in heart are called prudent, understanding, and knowing, and winsome speech increases learning [in both speaker and listener].

From NetBible Pro 16:21

  • * the wise of heart = those who make wise decisions (“heart” being the metonymy), will gain a reputation of being the discerning ones.
  • prudent[0995] = to discern, understand, consider, know, teach, instruct
  • * winsome speech = sweetness of lips = The idea of “sweetness” must be gracious and friendly words. The teaching will be well-received because it is both delightful and persuasive (cf. NIV “pleasant words promote instruction”).
  • learning[03948] = teaching, insight, instruction, teaching-power, persuasiveness

Deuteronomy 32:2 … Let teaching drop like the rain, my speech distill as the dew, like rain droplets upon the new grass, and showers upon young plants.

  • teaching[03948] = learning, insight, instruction, teaching-power, persuasiveness*the teaching/learning in view is the teaching/learning of spiritual truths from the ScripturesIsaiah 55:10-11 AMP … For as the rain and snow come down from the heavens, and return not there again, but water the earth and make it bring forth and sprout, that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater, So shall My word be that goes forth out of My mouth: it shall not return to Me void [without producing any effect, useless], but it shall accomplish that which I please and purpose, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

Colossians 4:6 AMP … Let your speech at all times be gracious (pleasant and winsome), seasoned [as it were] with salt, [so that you may never be at a loss] to know how you ought to answer anyone [who puts a question to you].

  • gracious[5485] = sweetness, pleasant, gratitude
    * of the merciful kindness by which God, exerting his holy
influence upon souls, turns them to Christ, keeps, strengthens,
increases them in Christian faith, knowledge, affection, and
kindles them to the exercise of the Christian virtues
  • seasoned with salt[217] = prudence, wisdom and grace exhibited in speech
Lord fill my heart and mouth with Your words. Let Your words fall like gentle rain or dew, pure and sweet. Praise You Lord Jesus, Your words do not return void. They produce the effect You desire increasing learning in both speaker and listener. Make us thirsty for You, Lord Jesus our Living word!

Strong Tower

May 18, 2013

Psalm 29:11The LORD will give strength to His people; The LORD will bless His people with peace.

From NetBible Ps 29:11

  • * Strength. This probably refers to military power
  • * “blesses his people with peace.” The Hebrew term שָׁלוֹם (shalom, “peace”) probably refers here to the protection and prosperity experienced by God’s people after the Lord intervenes in battle on their behalf.

Proverbs 18:10The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the [consistently] righteous man [upright and in right standing with God] runs into it and is safe, high [above evil] and strong.

From NetBible Pr 18:10

  • * The “name of the Lord” is a metonymy of subject. The “name” here signifies not the personal name “Yahweh,” for that would be redundant in the expression “the name of Yahweh,” but the attributes of the Lord (cf. Exod 34:5-7) – here his power to protect.
  • “a tower of strength,” with “strength” regarded as attributive by most English versions. The metaphor “strong tower” indicates that God is a secure refuge.
  • * The metaphor of “running” to the Lord refers to a whole-hearted and unwavering trust in God’s protection (e.g., Isa 40:31).
  • * “is high” or “is inaccessible.” This military-type expression stresses the effect of the trust – security, being out of danger (see HALOT 1305 s.v. שׂגב). Other scriptures will supply the ways that God actually protects people who trust him.

I AM your strong tower, your secure refuge
Run to Me with unwavering trust in Me and My protection.

Be drawn underneath My wings
There you will be blessed with My strength and peace beyond understanding
There you will find rest.

I AM your ever present, well-proved help
In the shadow of My wings rejoice and sing for joy
For experiencing My love is better than life! -Ps 46:1,63:3,7,91:14,9:9-10

Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him; I will set him on high, because he knows and understands My name [has a personal knowledge of My mercy, love, and kindness—trusts and relies on Me, knowing I will never forsake him, no, never]. -Ps 91:14 AMP

The Lord also will be a refuge and a high tower for the oppressed, a refuge and a stronghold in times of trouble (high cost, destitution, and desperation). And they who know Your name [who have experience and acquaintance with Your mercy] will lean on and confidently put their trust in You, for You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek (inquire of and for) You [on the authority of God’s Word and the right of their necessity]. -Ps 9:9-10 AMP

Love Beyond Understanding

May 8, 2013

Psalm 63:3,7 Because [experiencing] Your lovingkindness is better than life, My lips will praise You. … Because you are my help, I sing for joy in the shadow of your wings.

From NetBible Ps 63:3

  • lovingkindness[02617] = loyal love, goodness, kindness, faithfulness
    * The word “experiencing” is supplied in the translation for clarification. The psalmist does not speak here of divine loyal love in some abstract sense, but of loyal love revealed and experienced.
  • praise[07623] = to soothe, still, stroke, calm, glory triumph
*MSG … My lips brim praises like fountains glorifying You!

From NetBible Ps 63:7

  • sing for joy[07442] = greatly rejoice, celebrate, triumph, overcome

Psalm 36:7 How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God! Therefore the children of men[all people] put their trust[take refuge] under the shadow of Your wings.

From NetBible Ps 36:7

  • precious[03368] = priceless, excellent, exquisite, valuable, prized, rare
Ephesians 3:19 NLT … May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.

The Lord longs for you to know and experience
the fullness of His love.

Today, earnestly seek His face -Deut 4:29
Be drawn away by His love beyond understanding -Song 1:4
Beneath His protective wings
Greatly rejoice
Taste and see the goodness of the Lord
-Ps 34:8
Sing for joy!
