Psalm 42:11 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)
11 Why are you cast down, O my inner self? And why should you moan over me and be disquieted within me? Hope in God and wait expectantly for Him, for I shall yet praise Him, Who is the help of my countenance, and my God.
.

From ODB – Look Up
“Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God” (Ps 42:11). That’s good advice for anyone who is facing discouragement.
.
Lift up your eyes, discouraged one,
The Lord your help will be;
New strength will come from Him who said,
“For rest, come unto Me.” —Anon.
.
When you can’t find a way out, look up!

.
The best way to “Look Up!” is to “Lift Your Heart in Praise!”

Psalm 1:1-3 AMPC
1 Blessed (happy, fortunate, prosperous, and enviable) is the man who walks and lives not in the counsel of the ungodly [following their advice, their plans and purposes], nor stands [submissive and inactive] in the path where sinners walk, nor sits down [to relax and rest] where the scornful [and the mockers] gather.
2 But his delight and desire are in the law of the Lord, and on His law (the precepts, the instructions, the teachings of God) he habitually meditates (ponders and studies) by day and by night.
3 And he shall be like a tree firmly planted [and tended] by the streams of water, ready to bring forth its fruit in its season; its leaf also shall not fade or wither; and everything he does shall prosper [and come to maturity].

.
Psalm 92:13-15 AMPC
13 Planted in the house of the Lord, they shall flourish in the courts of our God.
14 [Growing in grace] they shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be full of sap [of spiritual vitality] and [rich in the] verdure [of trust, love, and contentment].
15 [They are living memorials] to show that the Lord is upright and faithful to His promises; He is my Rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.

Choose Wisely – The “Better” Part

September 15, 2019

Luke 10:38-42 Amplified Bible (AMP)
Martha and Mary
38 Now while they were on their way, Jesus entered a village [called Bethany], and a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home. 39 She had a sister named Mary, who seated herself at the Lord’s feet and was continually listening to His teaching. 40 But Martha was very busy and distracted with all of her serving responsibilities; and she approached Him and said, “Lord, is it of no concern to You that my sister has left me to do the serving alone? Tell her to help me and do her part.” 41 But the Lord replied to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered and anxious about so many things; 42 but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good{better} part [that which is to her advantage], which will not be taken away from her.”
.

Has anyone ever made statements like this to you?

  • I am serving all “alone”; you are only listening at Jesus feet
    => you are not helping!
  • You seem only to be worshipping, praying and listening for the Lord’s words => Why aren’t you “busy” serving?

.
Another interesting thing was pointed out to me recently
=>Martha did welcome Jesus into her home, but was too “busy” serving to ask Jesus what He wanted her to do. She actually interrupts Jesus to tell Him what to do!
.
Choose wisely – the better part!
.
<
.

Word Study
From NetBible Luke 10:38-42

  • Bethany = where Martha, Mary & Lazarus lived Jn 11:1
*Martha welcomed Jesus into her home as her guest
  • Mary took the initiative to sit at Jesus feet and listen to His words
  • Martha was distracted with much serving
*Distracted means to be pulled away by something
  • Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things
    * double vocative Martha, Martha communicates emotion indicates urgency
  • But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.
    * good treated as a positive for comparative (“better”)
part[3310] = distinct from the whole – an assigned portion, share
