Words of Wisdom and Words of Knowledge

April 28, 2021

1Corinthians 12:7-8 Amplified Bible
7 But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit [the spiritual illumination and the enabling of the Holy Spirit] for the common good. 8 To one is given through the [Holy] Spirit [the power to speak] the message of wisdom, and to another [the power to express] the word of knowledge and understanding according to the same Spirit …

=>word of wisdom=power to speak a message of wisdom by the Holy Spirit to build up the body
.
=>word of knowledge=power to express knowledge and understanding given by the Holy Spirit to build up the body

.
***I never noticed this “speaking wisdom” before, it’s also here:
1Corinthians 2:6 Amplified Bible
6 Yet we do speak wisdom among those spiritually mature [believers who have teachable hearts and a greater understanding]; but [it is a higher] wisdom not [the wisdom] of this present age nor of the rulers and leaders of this age, who are passing away …
.
***the goal of these gifts seems to be the same as here:
Ephesians 4:12-13 New American Standard Bible
12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the building up of the body of Christ; 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ.
**********************************************************
.
An example:
Solomon “speaks wisdom”:
1Kings 4:34 Amplified Bible
34 People came from all the peoples (nations) to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and from all the kings of the earth who had heard of his wisdom.
.
1Kings 3:8-9,12 Amplified Bible
8 Your servant is among Your people whom You have chosen, a great people who are too many to be numbered or counted. 9 So give Your servant an understanding mind and a hearing heart [with which] to judge Your people, so that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge and rule this great people of Yours?”
… 12 behold, I have done as you asked. I have given you a wise and discerning heart (mind) …

=> Solomon asks for wisdom to be able to rule and judge. He needed to discern between good and evil. He receives a wise heart and a discerning mind(v12).
.
=> a wise heart[02450] = skillful-artful, wise in administration, wise (ethically and religiously)
from [02449] = to be wise (in mind, word or act), teach-instruct wisdom
*Exodus 28:3So you shall speak to all who are gifted(wise-hearted[02450]) artisans, whom I have filled with the spirit of wisdom, that they may make Aaron’s garments, to consecrate him, that he may minister to Me as priest.
.
=> a discerning mind-heart[0995] = understanding, to know (with the mind), insight
.
!!! Look at v9!!!
=> an understanding and hearing heart[08085] = to hear(intelligently-with understanding), listen to, obey, tell, proclaim

.
add this in!

word of wisdom=power to hear-understand and speak a message of wisdom by the Holy Spirit to build up the body
.
=>word of knowledge=power to hear and express knowledge and understanding given by the Holy Spirit to build up the body

.

.
!!!! Look and example of Solomon demonstrating this wisdom !!!!
=>1Kings 3:16-28

=>The King’s sword discerns and separates good from evil.
.
The King’s sword executes judgement.
.
The King’s sword is discernment, knowledge and wisdom
=> knowledge of God’s Word, and wisdom to apply it.
1Ki 3:9,24;2Chron 1:10;Ps 149:6-9;Heb 4:12

Psalm 139:6,17-18Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to know!
… How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand. When I awake, I am still with You{Oh, let me rise in the morning and live always with You!}.

.
Psalm 40:5Many, O LORD my God, are the amazing wonders You have done. Your thoughts towards us are too numerous to list. You have no equal. If I would declare and speak of them, they would be too numerous to count.
.
O LORD, You have no equal!
Many are Your amazing wonders and thoughts
Your precious thoughts towards me are innumerable
So vast they outnumber the grains of sand.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me
Too great for me to know.

Job 3 – Longing for Death vs Life

April 23, 2021

Job 3:11-19

Job Wishes He Had Died at Birth
*1 Job’s reasoning: since he was born (v10), the next chance he had of escaping this life of misery would have been to be still born (v11-12, 16). In v13-19 Job considers death as falling into a peaceful sleep in a place where there is no trouble.
.
From BibleHub Job 3:11
Matthew Henry’s Concise Commentary
3:11-19: Job complained of those present at his birth, for their tender attention to him. No creature comes into the world so helpless as man. God’s power and providence upheld our frail lives, and his pity and patience spared our forfeited lives. Natural affection is put into parents’ hearts by God. To desire to die that we may be with Christ, that we may be free from sin, is the effect and evidence of grace; but to desire to die, only that we may be delivered from the troubles of this life, savours of corruption. It is our wisdom and duty to make the best of that which is, be it living or dying; and so to live to the Lord, and die to the Lord, as in both to be his, Rom 14:8. Observe how Job describes the repose of the grave; There the wicked cease from troubling. When persecutors die, they can no longer persecute. There the weary are at rest: in the grave they rest from all their labours. And a rest from sin, temptation, conflict, sorrows, and labours, remains in the presence and enjoyment of God. There believers rest in Jesus, nay, as far as we trust in the Lord Jesus and obey him, we here find rest to our souls, though in the world we have tribulation.

=> Philippians 3:8-11 NASB … More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them mere rubbish, so that I may gain Christ, 9 and may be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith, 10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death; 11 if somehow I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.
.
Job 3:20-26

Longing for Death
*1 Since he has survived birth, Job wonders why he could not have died a premature death. He wonders why God gives light and life to those who are in misery. His own condition throws gloom over life, and so he poses the question first generally, for many would prefer death to misery (Job 20-22); then he comes to the individual, himself, who would prefer death (23). He closes his initial complaint with some depictions of his suffering that afflicts him and gives him no rest (Job 24-26).
.
From BibleHub Job 3:20
Matthew Henry’s Concise Commentary
3:20-26: Job was like a man who had lost his way, and had no prospect of escape, or hope of better times. But surely he was in an ill frame for death when so unwilling to live. Let it be our constant care to get ready for another world, and then leave it to God to order our removal thither as he thinks fit. Grace teaches us in the midst of life’s greatest comforts, to be willing to die, and in the midst of its greatest crosses, to be willing to live. Job’s way was hid; he knew not wherefore God contended with him. The afflicted and tempted Christian knows something of this heaviness; when he has been looking too much at the things that are seen, some chastisement of his heavenly Father will give him a taste of this disgust of life, and a glance at these dark regions of despair. Nor is there any help until God shall restore to him the joys of his salvation. Blessed be God, the earth is full of his goodness, though full of man’s wickedness. This life may be made tolerable if we attend to our duty. We look for eternal mercy, if willing to receive Christ as our Saviour.

=> Philippians 1:21 AMP … For to me, to live is Christ [He is my source of joy, my reason to live] and to die is gain [for I will be with Him in eternity].
.

To Live is Christ
. He alone my Joy
. My reason to Live
To Die is Gain
. Forverer in His presence
. Embraced
This Is Amazing Grace!

And the vines are in blossom and give forth their fragrance.
Arise, my love, my fair{beautiful} one,
And come away [to climb the rocky steps of the hillside].’”

Job Regrets His Birth

April 12, 2021

Job 3:1-10Job Regrets His Birth
.
Job 3:4May that day{Job’s birth} be darkness; May God above not seek it, Nor the light shine upon it.

*2 “May that day be darkness” is the negation of the divine decree at creation – “Let there be light,” and that was the first day. Job wishes that his first day be darkness: “As for that day, let there be darkness.” Since only God has this prerogative, Job adds the wish that God on high would not regard that day.
*3 Job wants the day to perish from the mind of God.

=>Job wants his 1st day to be darkness=the opposite of the 1st day “Let there be light”
.
Job 3:9May the stars of its morning be dark; May it look for light, but have none, And not see the dawning of the day.

*1 Job wishes that the morning stars – that should announce the day – go out.
*4 the dawning of the day= is literally “the eyelids of the morning.” This means the very first rays of dawn

=>it’s as if the stars of the morning announced the day of Job’s birth
=>the stars of the morning seem to have eyes
.

Job 38:7When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

*1 The expression “morning stars” (Heb “stars of the morning”) is here placed in parallelism to the angels, “the sons of God.”
*2 “shout for joy-singing” shows this to be enthusiastic acclamation.
*4 “the sons of God” see Job 1:6
=>*3 “the sons of God” in Job seem to be angels

******here the morning stars seems to proclaim-announce the foundation of the earth(v4)

From NetBible [03556]
*1 star
*1a of Messiah, brothers, youth, numerous progeny, personification, God’s omniscience

=> “the sons of God” in Job seem to be angels
=> “the morning stars” in Job seem to be stars with human characteristics
.
=>stars seem to be associated with “the sons of God”
– in Job = angels=messengers from God(Job 1:6; 2:1; 38:7).
*Sometimes they are stars in the sky to announce
– a special event(Job 38:7; Ps 148:3).
*Sometimes they are human messengers pointing to Christ
– (Num 24:17;Rev 22:16;2Pe 1:19;Dan 12:3;1Cor 15:41-42)

Job – Trust God in Good AND Bad Times

April 10, 2021

Job 2:1-13
Satan’s Additional Charge
1 Again, there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them to present himself before the Lord. 2 The Lord said to Satan, “Where have you come from?” Then Satan answered the Lord and said, “From roaming about on the earth and walking around on it.” 3 The Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job? For there is no one like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man fearing God and turning away from evil. And he still holds firm to his integrity, although you incited Me against him to ruin him without cause.”

*4 “Job is still holding firmly.” The testing has simply strengthened Job in his integrity.
*6 God is saying that Job has maintained his integrity, so that now it is clear that Satan moved against him groundlessly
=>God is still in control even when His ways are not understood.
My thoughts are completely different from yours,” says the LORD. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.” –Isa 55:8-9

4 Satan answered the Lord and said, “Skin for skin! Yes, all that a man has, he will give for his life. 5 However, reach out with Your hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh; he will curse You to Your face!” 6 So the Lord said to Satan, “Behold, he is in your power, only spare his life.”
Job’s Integrity in Suffering
7 Then Satan went out from the presence of the Lord and struck Job with severe boils from the sole of his foot to the top of his head. 8 And Job took a piece of pottery to scrape himself while he was sitting in the ashes.
9 Then his wife said to him, “Do you still hold firm your integrity? Curse God and die!” 10 But he said to her, “You are speaking as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we actually accept good from God but not accept adversity?” Despite all this, Job did not sin with his lips.

Job’s wife tempts Job with the very thing Satan wants to prove.
=>Job’s response is to trust God in good times as well as bad.
But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive. –Gen 50:20

The Visit of Job’s Friends
11 Now when Job’s three friends heard about all this adversity that had come upon him, they came, each one from his own place—Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite; and they made an appointment together to come to sympathize with him and comfort him. 12 When they looked from a distance and did not recognize him, they raised their voices and wept. And each of them tore his robe, and they threw dust over their heads toward the sky. 13 Then they sat down on the ground with him for seven days and seven nights, with no one speaking a word to him, for they saw that his pain was very great.

*42 It may be that his friends came to show the proper sympathy and express the appropriate feelings. They were not ready for what they found.
*48 The three friends went into a more severe form of mourning, one that is usually reserved for a death.
=>instead of proper sympathy and comfort, this display would have further tempted Job to give up.

Job – Blessed Be the Name of the LORD!

April 9, 2021

Job 1:13-22
Job’s Integrity in Adversity
13 Now the day came{1st day of week} when Job’s sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house, 14 a messenger came to Job and said, “The oxen were plowing and the donkeys were grazing nearby, 15 and the Sabeans attacked and took them. They also slew the servants with the edge{mouth} of the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you.”
16 While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The fire of God fell from heaven and burned up the sheep and the servants and consumed them, and I alone have escaped to tell you.”

*12 The “fire of God” would refer to lightning – The first blow came from enemies; the second from heaven, which might have confused Job more as to the cause of his troubles.
=> “fire of God” consumes both offering & enemies of God (1Ki 18:38; 2Ki 1:12)

17 While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The Chaldeans formed three bands and made a raid on the camels and took them and slew the servants with the edge of the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you.”
18 While he was still speaking, yet another messenger came and said, “Your sons and daughters were feasting and drinking wine at the oldest brother’s house, 19 and suddenly, a great wind came from across the wilderness and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell on the young people and they died, and I alone have escaped to tell you.”

*18 Both wind and lightning (v16) were employed by Satan as his tools. God can permit him such control over factors of the weather when it suits the divine purpose, but God retains ultimate control (see Job 28:23-27; Pro 3:3-4; Luke 8:24-25).

20 Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head, and he fell to the ground and worshiped. 21 He said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, And naked I shall return there. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away. Blessed be the name of the LORD.” 22 In all this, Job did not sin by charging God with wrongdoing.

=>Will you believe God is still in control when calamity comes? When it appears to come right from God? Will you still trust that you are in God’s care? Protection? Will you still worship in Spirit and Truth and believe that God is good?

.
No matter what the circumstance
Worship the Lord in
Spirit and Truth –Jn 4:23-24
Believe that God causes all things to work together
For good to those who love Him
Believe that NOTHING can separate us
From the love of Christ! –Rom 8:28-38

Knowing the Sovereign Lord=Highest Reward

April 6, 2021

Job 1:6-12
Satan’s Accusation of Job
6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them. 7 The Lord said to Satan, “From where do you come?” Satan answered the Lord and said, “From roaming about on the earth and walking around on it.” 8 The Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job? For there is no one like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, fearing God and turning away from evil.”

.

Be sober{self-controlled} and alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. –1Peter 5:8
.
=>Fearing God means not only clinging to good but recognizing and turning away from evil. Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. –1Thess 5:21-22;Rom 12:9,17,21

.
9 Then Satan answered the Lord, “Does Job fear God for nothing? 10 Have You not made a fence around him and his house and all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. 11 But reach out with Your hand now and touch all that he has; he will certainly curse You to Your face.” 12 Then the Lord said to Satan, “Behold, all that he has is in your power; only do not reach out and put your hand on him.” So Satan departed from the presence of the Lord.
.

From NetBible Job 1:6-12

  • * God extols the virtue of Job, but Satan challenges the reasons for it. He receives permission to try to dislodge Job from his integrity. In short, God is using Job to prove Satan’s theory wrong.
  • * fence-hedge of protection=idea seems to have been to surround with a wall of thorns for the purpose of protection

.
=>Why do you seek the Lord? For His blessings? Hedge of protection? Or to personally know Him?
.
