A garden enclosed; a fountain sealed
Sweet fragrance of life –

Breathe in, breathe out –
Job 33:4;Rev 19:10
Apples of gold.
.

2Corinthians 2:14-15But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of Him. 15 For we are a fragrance of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing.
.
Revelation 19:10Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit[4151] of prophecy[4394].

*spirit[4151]= Holy Spirit, movement of air{wind, breath of nostrils or mouth}
*prophecy[4394]=a discourse{utterance} emanating from divine inspiration and declaring the purposes of God

The garden enclosed from the above scripture is a picture of the secret place within the heart of the “bride”. It’s amazing and beautiful that it’s also a picture of the bride being Pregnant with the Word or apples of gold!
.
Apples of gold are breathed by the Holy Spirit. They contain the fragrance of Christ, bringing life[02421] . These apples “breathe” – refresh, quicken, revive and restore from sickness, discouragement, faintness, and/or death. They bring life and joy. Isn’t it interesting that the “place of apples”, the place where these apples are “breathed” is in Judah, assigned to the tribe of Judah = praise/He is to be praised?!

Upon the Mountain of Spices

September 26, 2010

Song 4:6 Until the day breaks and the shadows flee away, I will go my way to the mountain of myrrh and to the hill of frankincense.

The hill of frankincense is Calvary, where, “through the eternal Spirit He offered Himself”{a fragrant offering (Eph 5:2)}; the mountain of myrrh is His embalmment & burial in the garden(Jn 19:39-42) till the resurrection “daybreak.” (Jameison-Fausset-Brown)

a woman came to Him having an alabaster flask of very costly fragrant oil{usually made from myrrh}, and she poured it on His head as He sat at the table . -Mt 26:7

Many commentaries think the mountain of myrrh – Heb mor, points to Mt Moriah- the place of myrrh(referring to the spices burnt as incense) where the temple was built(2 Chr 3:1) and where Abraham offered up his son Isaac, foreshadowing Christ’s sacrifice. (Matthew Henry, Wikipedia) Abraham called this place ‘The LORD Will Provide’. And to this day it is said, “On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided” (Gen 22:2,14).

Song 4:16 Awake, O north wind, and come, wind of the south; Make my garden breathe out fragrance, Let its spices be wafted abroad. May my beloved come into His garden and eat its choice fruits!

Song 6:2 My beloved is gone down into His garden, to the beds of spices, to feed in the gardens, and to gather lilies.

Song 8:14 Make haste, my beloved, and be like a gazelle or a young stag on the mountains of spices.

The Fragrance of Joy

May 1, 2009

Song 4:12-16       A [rock] garden enclosed is my sister, my spouse, a spring shut up, a fountain sealed.

Your plants are an orchard of pomegranates with pleasant fruits, fragrant henna with spikenard, spikenard and saffron, calamus and cinnamon, with all trees of frankincense, myrrh and aloes, with all the chief spices*––

You are a fountain [springing up] in a garden, a well of living waters, and flowing streams from Lebanon.

Awake, north wind, and come, south wind! Blow on my garden, that its fragrance may spread abroad. Let my lover come into His garden and taste its choice fruits.

***

The Bride, this garden enclosed has a sweet fragrance
The aroma of perfuming oil or incense
The aroma of Christ.

The aroma of the Bridegroom and King, the oil of joy
The sweet fragrance of joy!

Like the Bridegroom
The Bride anointed with this fragrance of joy
And set high upon a rock
Her head lifted above her enemies round about
Midst sacrifices with shouts of joy and singing. —
Ps 27:4-6

Let the wind of the Spirit blow
That this fragrance of life may spread.

To grant [consolation and joy] to those who mourn in Zion–to give them an ornament (a garland or diadem) of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, the garment [expressive] of praise instead of a heavy, burdened, and failing spirit–that they may be called oaks of righteousness [lofty, strong, and magnificent, distinguished for uprightness, justice, and right standing with God], the planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified. –Isa 61:3

I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul will exult in my God; for He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. For as [surely as] the earth brings forth its shoots, and as a garden causes what is sown in it to spring forth, so [surely] the Lord God will cause rightness and justice and praise to spring forth before all the nations [through the self-fulfilling power of His word]. –Isa 61:10-11

Let my lover come into His garden and taste its choice fruits.

“Where has your beloved gone, O most beautiful among women? Where has your beloved turned, that we may seek Him with you?”

“My beloved has gone down to His garden, to the beds of spices, to pasture His flock in the gardens and gather lilies.”

“I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine.” –Song 6:1-3

Let my lover come into His garden and taste its choice fruits.
To pasture His flock and gather the lilies.

IT’S TIME TO GATHER THE LILIES.

Song 7:2(Lover to Beloved)
Your navel is a rounded goblet; It lacks no liquor(mixd wine). Your belly is a heap of wheat encirlced about with lilies.

Where the lilies are gathered
In their midst – a heap of wheat!
A plentiful harvest capable of feeding many.

There is goblet with mixed wine, which is intoxicating,
Filled and used for joyous celebration
And rivers of living water! –Jn 7:38

Let my lover come into His garden and taste its choice fruits.
To pasture His flock and gather the lilies.

IT’S TIME TO GATHER THE LILIES.

Hebrews 10:23-25
Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near

2 Corinthians 2:14-17     Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. To the one we are the aroma [wafted] of death leading to death [a fatal odor, the smell of doom], and to the other the aroma of life leading to life [a vital fragrance, living and fresh]. And who is sufficient for these things? For we are not, as so many, peddling the word of God; but as of sincerity, but as from God, we speak in the sight of God in Christ.

Psalm 45:7-8   You love righteousness and hate wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy. All your robes are fragrant with myrrh and aloes and cassia; from palaces adorned with ivory the music of the strings makes you glad.

*Or “with all the finest balsam trees.” The Hebrew term בֹּשֶׂם (bosem) can refer either to the balsam tree, the spice associated with it, or by extension any fragrant aroma used as perfuming oil or incense.

A Garden Enclosed; A Fountain Sealed

April 29, 2009

Song 4:12-16
A [rock] garden enclosed
Is my sister, my spouse,
A spring shut up, a  fountain sealed.

Your plants are an orchard of pomegranates
With pleasant fruits, fragrant henna with spikenard,

Spikenard and saffron, calamus and cinnamon,
With all trees of frankincense, myrrh and aloes,
With all the chief spices––

You are a fountain [springing up] in a garden,
A well of living waters,
And flowing streams from Lebanon.

Awake, north wind, and come, south wind!
Blow on my garden,
That its fragrance may spread abroad.
Let my lover come into His garden
And taste its choice fruits.

This is a beautiful picture of the bride of Christ. The bride is a rock garden enclosed. This brings to mind the images from my article ‘Sing to the Well’. Singing (or speaking) to the well (Num 21:16-18) was  linked with striking the rock in order for abundant waters to flow. Christ is this Spiritual Rock (1 Cor 10:4). The Rock and those who believe in Him have a well of living water that flows forth (Jn 4:14, 7:38-39).

The bride is a sealed fountain. In biblical times wells were sealed to both keep out dust and dirt and to declare ownership (Gen 29:3). Similarly God has reserved us for His very own and protects us with the seal of the Holy Spirit.

Ephesians 1:13-14    And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in Him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of His glory.

A garden enclosed, sealed; a secret place within hearts belonging to God our Father(Gal 4:6 ) thru our Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. A beautiful hidden place of communion and fellowship with the Lord to behold His beauty. A garden enclosed is a place of rest and protection, high upon the ‘Rock’, high above any foe (Ps 27:4-6 ), secure beneath His wings(Ps 91:1, 4, 14 AMP ).

A Garden Enclosed
Karen Holland 7-5-06

A garden enclosed, chosen and made
Sealed, hidden deep within the heart
The secret place of the Almighty set high upon the ‘Rock’
A place to seek His face, His beauty to behold.

A garden enclosed, planted and tended by the Father’s hand
Beautiful, fed, by everflowing streams it stands
Ever fragrant, evergreen
Sweet refuge, under the shadow of His wings.
Awake mighty wind and blow
Spread abroad, this sweet garden scent – a sweet perfume
Breath of life breathe, faith, love, joy and peace
That this garden enclosed may in His grace, always abound.

Isaiah 58:11
And the Lord shall guide you continually
And satisfy you in drought and dry places and make strong your bones,
And you shall be like a spring of water whose waters fail not.
